The Department:

The Santa Clara City Library is a department of the City of Santa Clara. The Santa Clara City Library operates three facilities, a virtual branch through a website, and a bookmobile. The Library provides a collection of virtual and physical books and resources, services and programs, public internet access, adult literacy and English as Second Language classes for the Santa Clara community. Services and programs are free and open to all.

The Position:

The Library Technology Consultant provides assistance with and instruction to the public on the use of library computers, electronic resources, printing, and audio-visual equipment. The Library Technology Consultant performs complicated tasks involving computer and audio-visual equipment, sensitive patron information, and handling money.

As an as-needed employee, this is an "at-will" position and there is no guarantee of hours. Hours are limited to 999 in a fiscal year or 960 hours in a fiscal year for retired CalPERS annuitants.

TYPICAL DUTIES:

Under general supervision:

• Monitors the public’s use of computer equipment in the Technology Center, meeting rooms and throughout the library. 
• Provides individual and group technology instruction, including preparing and running technology classes at various City locations.
• Assists the public with the use of library computers, software and electronic resources; resolves problems and answers basic questions regarding computer, laptop & mobile device usage.
• Performs basic troubleshooting on Library self-checkout machines, scanners, and genealogy equipment.
• Monitors the use of technology equipment to deter theft and/or vandalism.
• Cleans and inspects computer equipment, replaces printer cartridges and printer paper.
• Maintains an inventory of computer supplies and peripheral devices; checks out peripheral devices to patrons; submits requests for replacements when needed.
• Oversees the Internet queuing system and monitors patrons’ time usage.
• Troubleshoots printer problems and Internet access problems involving patron cards.
• Assists patrons with payment for print jobs, photocopies & faxes, handles cash and credit cards.
• Accesses patron library accounts on library software.
• Configures and operates audio-visual equipment in conference rooms for meetings and/or public functions.  
• Configures and operates basic types of computer hardware and peripherals.
• Assists library users in connecting to the internet with mobile devices, WiFi hotspots, and laptop/Chromebook computers.
• Performs other related duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Minimum Education Requirements:

Graduation from high school or possession of a GED

Minimum Experience Requirements:

One (1) year experience with computer and audio-visual equipment.

• Must be at least 18 years of age at time of application.
• This position will be required to work on Sundays. Sunday hours will start January 2025, with 40 hours of training in November/December required for working on Sundays.

PART-TIME ARCHIVIST (LIBRARIAN I/LIBRARY ASSISTANT I)

The Mill Valley Public Library is looking for a part-time archivist for the Lucretia Little History Room. This individual should be passionate about preserving local history, particularly oral histories.

ESTIMATED NUMBER OF HOURS:

12 - 15 hours per week, depending on availability and experience.

ABOUT THE POSITION:

Reporting to the Supervising Archivist, the Part-Time Archivist in the Lucretia Little History Room will oversee the processing of new oral history recordings and work through the backlog. The ideal candidate will be able to multitask, work independently and collaboratively, with excellent communication and organization skills, and an eye for detail.

The Plans Examiner II is the journey-level class in the Plans Examiner series. The classification is distinguished from the Senior Building Plans Examiner by the assignment and performance of a broad range of plan review duties, the level of independence to operate and level of supervision received.

Senior Plans Examiner:

The Senior Plans Examiner is the advanced, journey-level class in the Plans Examiner series. This classification is distinguished from the level II by the ability to perform the full range of plan review duties, the level of independence to operate and make sound decisions with minimal supervision, and the authority to oversee plan review activities and approve compliant building plans.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED

Plans Examiner I:

Receives immediate supervision from the Building Official and may receive technical and functional supervision from the Senior Plans Examiner.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

• Examines construction plans and related documents for proposed commercial, industrial and residential structures for compliance with codes and ordinances including structural, mechanical, plumbing, electrical and energy calculations, safety and health features, use of material, placements in the property, and setbacks.

• Identifies and makes recommendations for corrections to inadequate plans in order to meet required codes.

• Responds to routine building plan issues and complaints to determine compliance with codes and standards.

• Determine plan examination, permit and other fees and valuation on submitted plans.

• Assists with the resolution of routine problems of proposed projects.

• Coordinates with other departments on project requirements.

• May perform field investigations of structural problems, covering failures, instability, proper installation of unusual designs, materials or equipment, and other unsafe conditions; prepares reports and make recommendations on solutions.

• Responds to questions from the public and other departments, and assists with researching and finding requested construction documents.

• Explains disapprovals or modification recommendations to applicants for permits.

• Assists building permit applicants in completing applications.

• Assists with developing informational literature related to plan check requirements and processing for public distribution.

• Establishes positive working relationships with representatives of community organizations, state/local agencies and associations, City management, City staff and the public.

PHYSICAL, MENTAL AND ENVIRONMENTAL WORKING CONDITIONS

Position requires sitting, standing, walking on level and slippery surfaces, reaching, twisting, turning, kneeling, bending, stooping, squatting, crouching, grasping and making repetitive hand movement in the performance of daily duties. The position requires acute hearing and both near and far vision while performing work including customer interactions, reading and inspecting plans, electronic or physical documents, field work and operating assigned equipment. The need to lift, drag, carry and push documents, equipment and supplies weighing 50 pounds or more is required. Additionally, the incumbent in this position periodically works in all weather conditions, including wet, hot and cold. The position entails working in situations that may expose the employee to fumes or airborne particles, electrical shock or mechanical hazards. The nature of the work requires the incumbent to drive motorized vehicles, operate in heavy vehicle traffic conditions, climb ladders and often work with constant interruptions.

THE JOB

The Executive Director will serve as a visionary leader for the organization and is responsible for coordinating and expanding various mental health services, ensuring team members are meeting desirable outcomes and providing excellence in service to the communities. They will direct the development of organization-wide goals, policies, and procedures and keep the Governing Board aware of financial conditions, program progress, and the organization’s needs. Under general supervision, an Employee Assistance Counselor provides clinical assessment, short-term counseling and referral of City and County employees experiencing difficulties related to personal or work-related problems, such as stress, depression, anxiety, substance abuse, emotional concerns or relationship issues. A Counselor conducts seminars, trainings, and consultations on issues related to personal and organizational wellness; prepares records and reports; and performs related duties as required.

Typical duties include, but are not limited to:

1. Provides clinical assessment, short-term counseling and referral services to employees of the City and County who are experiencing difficulties related to personal or work-related problems, such as stress, depression, anxiety, substance abuse, emotional concerns or relationship issues; provides counseling of family members and significant others as appropriate.
2. Facilitates seminars and trainings for employees and management on personal, interpersonal and organizational issues such as the effective management of stress, anger and emotions, workplace negativity and dealing with difficult people.
3. Assists in evaluation efforts to determine the effectiveness of services provided.
4. Educates employees, supervisors and managers regarding EAP service offerings, how to access services, early identification of personal and workplace problems, and referrals to the program.
5. Provides trauma response, crisis intervention and mediation/conflict resolution services as requested.
6. Collects client and program data for tracking, conducts analysis, and prepares related records and reports as requested.

The City of Lincoln is accepting applications for two regular, full-time positions of Maintenance Worker II assigned to the Parks and Facilities Division of the Public Works Department.

THE POSITION

This position works in parks and open space maintenance.   Under general supervision, the incumbent is expected to perform the full array of duties assigned at the journey level of the Maintenance Worker class series.  The work includes maintenance, construction and equipment operation work in the Parks and Facilities division, occasionally assist in the training of lower level Maintenance Workers, and perform other related duties as required.

A successful candidate will have experience performing municipal parks maintenance.  Training in maintenance, agronomy, horticulture, forestry, natural resource management, electrical, plumbing, carpentry, janitorial or related is desirable.  The Department is seeking a candidate who:

• Understands the principles, methods and techniques of park operations and maintenance.
• Has knowledge and experience using the materials, tools and equipment needed in the construction, maintenance and repair of park facilities.
• Practices safety principles.
• Understands methods of planning and scheduling time, labor and materials necessary for the care of park equipment, irrigation systems and landscaped areas.

DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS

The Maintenance Worker II is the journey-level class responsible for a wide variety of maintenance and construction tasks. This classification is distinguished from the next higher classification of Senior Maintenance Worker in that the latter performance the more complex assignments and lead responsibilities.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED/EXERCISED

The Maintenance Worker II receives general supervision from the Maintenance Services Manager or Public Services Supervisor. May exercise technical and functional supervision over assigned staff. 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

• Performs maintenance, repair, construction, equipment operation and installation work in streets, water, sewers, refuse collection, parks and buildings.
• Parks and Buildings: Maintains lawns, shrubs, and trees; assists in spraying of herbicides and pesticides; cuts, sprays and removes weeds; clears brush and debris; assists with planting and maintenance of landscaped areas; installs, maintains, repairs and programs irrigation systems; cleans and maintains parks and city buildings; assists in the performance of minor carpentry, plumbing, electrical, painting and remodeling tasks.
• Fills out reports and work orders; climbs or uses hydraulic aerial devices to top, trim, reshape, strip, treat and remove trees; operates airport fueling vehicles; responds to after-hours call-outs if assigned.
• Demonstrates a full understanding of applicable policies, procedures and work methods associated with assigned duties; may provide training to lower level staff; responds to questions and concerns from the general public; provides information as is appropriate and resolves public service complaints.

The nature of the work also requires the incumbent to climb ladders, use power and noise producing tools and equipment, operate hydraulic aerial devices, drive motorized vehicles and heavy equipment, work in heavy vehicle traffic conditions and often work with constant interruptions.

The Santa Clara Library Department aims to unite our community through possibility, exploration, and education. Read Santa Clara’s adult literacy program serves adults who seek to strengthen their basic literacy skills to achieve their goals as family members, workers, community members and lifelong learners.

The Position:

The Literacy Technology Assistant helps Read Santa Clara's adult learners gain basic digital literacy skills. The person helps adult learners 1:1 or in small groups learn how to use the literacy program's laptops and iPads as well as how to use literacy software on their own devices. The Literacy Technology Assistant may also be called on to support volunteer tutors or Read Santa Clara staff, as the need arises. The Literacy Technology Assistant is a patient, empathetic individual, who can teach basic technology skills to adults who have little or no digital literacy skills.

As an as-needed employee, this is an "at-will" position and there is no guarantee of hours. Hours are limited to 999 in a fiscal year or 960 hours in a fiscal year for retired CalPERS annuitants.

Typical Duties:

• Configure and operate Read Santa Clara's devices.
• Maintain the technology inventory, including keeping track of software subscriptions and licenses.
• Meet one-on-one with adult learners who need help with technology.
• Plan and conduct small group classes for learners on basic technology skills and literacy software.
• Check in and check out RSC devices to adult learners.
• Advise volunteers on how to effectively incorporate technology in literacy instruction and assist them as-needed with the online platform used to turn in monthly tutoring reports
• Write user-friendly instructions/create tutorial videos to help adult learners/tutors use literacy software.
• Record data and provide reports of sessions held with learners and tutors.
• Support Read Santa Clara staff, as needed, on specific literacy projects.

• May be required to go to different library branches or community sites within the City of Santa Clara to serve adult learners.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Knowledge of:

• Adult literacy and/or experience tutoring adults in basic literacy/technology skills
• Windows based operating systems and standard office software.
• How to use laptops/Chromebooks, iPads, smart phones, and copiers/printers.

Ability to:

• Learn about literacy software and the library's electronic resources.
• Teach adults basic technology skills.
• Work independently and prioritize work assignments with minimal supervision.
• Troubleshoot routine technology problems and recognize and report complex problems to literacy staff.

• Interact courteously with learners, tutors and staff from diverse backgrounds.
• Work effectively in a team-based environment to achieve common goals.

What You'll Do

The Senior Planner works on, organizes, reviews, and participates in current and advanced planning work and acts as Zoning Administrator when assigned.  The Senior Planer also supervises the work of professional and technical planning personnel, projects, and other activities when assigned.  This class is the first supervisory level in the professional planning series.  It is distinguished from the next lower class of Associate Planner through its supervisory duties, when assigned, and its responsibilities for the most complex planning projects.  It is distinguished from the next higher class of Principal Planner as the latter is responsible for managing the current and advanced planning functions of the Planning Division.  Duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:

• Implement goals, objectives, policies, and priorities.
• Direct, coordinate, review, and participate in the work of professional and other planning staff in data collection, analysis, and implementation of a wide variety of planning, zoning, and environmental review activities.
• Act as Zoning Administrator when assigned; supervise special planning, zoning, and environmental studies, and plans; prepare oral and written reports and findings.
• Perform the most complex and sensitive planning work.
• Act as liaison and make oral and written reports to the Planning Commission, Development Review Board, City Council, and various citizen committees as assigned.
• Coordinate planning activities with other City divisions and departments, and with outside local, regional, Federal and State agencies and provide assistance as needed.
• Chair Development Review Board meetings as required.
• Initiate recommendations for changes in codes, plans and policies.
• Utilize expert knowledge in specific technical areas to serve as staff resource.
• May assist in the preparation and administration of the annual budget.
• Meet with and advise developers regarding development applications and processes; explain purposes, regulations, and directives of accepted development practices; complete processing of the most difficult and complex planning applications; advise staff on processing of applications.
• Supervise, train, and evaluate staff, when assigned.

The Senior Planner receives direction from the Planning Manager or higher-level department personnel and exercises direct supervision over professional and other planning staff as assigned.
