The Position and Responsibilties

As a member of the Public Works, Engineering Division, in the Development Section, the Engineering Technician I/II will perform a wide variety of support functions to assist with customer service, development review and permitting.

Examples of Job Duties

General Duties for both the Technician I and II in all assignments:

• Operates a variety of office machines, calculators, personal computers and a variety of software applications.
• Makes initial review of project submittals and RFI's and routes correctly.
• Under the direction of a registered engineer, prepares manually or through CAD diagrams for field design changes.

Engineering Technician I (Development Section)

• Reviews and issues encroachment permits for work in the public right-of-way to residents, private utility companies including but not limited to PG&E, AT&T, Comcast, Alameda County Water District (ACWD) and Union Sanitary District (USD).
• Assists the Project Engineer in the review of private development applications from planning entitlement phase, to issuance of building permits, to approval of final/parcel maps and construction of any public improvements required to support the proposed development.
• Provides customer service at the Development Service Center related to private development applications and requirements for issuance of encroachment permits.

Engineering Technician II (Development Section)

In addition to the duties listed above for Engineering Technician I:

• Participates in the review and recommendation process for more complex encroachment and grading permits.

The City of Fremont's Police Department is hiring for the position of Senior Office Specialist. There are two vacancies: one vacancy resides in the Animal Services Division and the second vacancy resides in the Business Services Division.

THE POSITION

Under general supervision, the Plan Check Engineer performs independent building and plan examinations for construction or alteration of industrial, commercial, and residential structures; determines compliance with applicable codes, laws, and regulations; and performs other duties as assigned.

Examples of duties include:

• Checks plans, specifications, and calculations on building plans submitted by architects, engineers, contractors, and owners for compliance with structural design, zoning, grading, soil reports, energy standards, disabled access, and general conformity to applicable ordinances, laws and State building codes.

• Advises building inspectors on structural and other building related problems arising in the field during construction.

• Assists customers in person and over the phone answering questions and providing instructions to architects, engineers, contractors, homeowners, other customers, and staff regarding building requirements, structural application of various codes, and requirements to achieve compliance standards.

The City of Berkeley invites you to apply for the position of Assistant Public Works Engineer in the Public Works Department! In this role, you will have the opportunity to apply your engineering knowledge to problems involved in design, specification and inspection of construction projects for sewers, streets, structures, parks and related public works projects. You will perform a variety of difficult engineering work and exercise a considerable amount of independent judgment in designing plans and making general engineering and plan checking calculations.

This position acts as a resident Civil Engineer in checking for contract compliance with engineering standards and specifications. With California Registration, incumbent may sign off on engineering specifications and plans.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

A typical way of gaining the knowledge, skills, and abilities for this position is:
Equivalent to graduation from a four-year college or university with major coursework in civil engineering and two (2) years of professional civil engineering experience in design and construction work at a level equivalent to the Junior Public Works Engineer class.

Other requirements include possession of a valid California driver's license with a satisfactory driving record. Possession of a valid California certificate as an Engineer in Training is desirable, but is not required.

Under direction, provides clerical and administrative support to a department head, division head, section supervisor and/or supervisory and professional staff within a variety of City departments. CLASS CHARACTERISITICS:

This is the lead-level class in the Administrative Assistant series. Under general supervision, may provide lead direction and training to a small group of Administrative Assistants and Office Specialists; provides difficult and/or specialized office support to a designated department head, division head, section supervisor and/or supervisory and professional staff within a variety of City departments; and performs related work as assigned. This position is distinguished from the Administrative Assistant II class by the high degree of independence, level of responsibility, the greater complexity of assignments received, and its possible supervisory nature. Incumbents exercise a high degree of responsibility for administrative research and analysis and provide recommendations to department heads, section supervisors and/or supervisory and professional staff within a variety of City departments.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES (illustrative only):

• May provide lead direction, training and review of work of those in the Office Specialist and Administrative Assistant series.
• Coordinates purchasing and supply ordering activities; contacts vendors; obtains the best terms and prices; arranges for delivery; and processes paperwork for payment.
• Arranges for the maintenance and repair of facilities and equipment; follows up to ensure that repairs have been completed.

The Department

The Human Services Department (HSD) delivers and supports services by forging long-term community partnerships, engaging with and building the capacity of the community to do its own problem-solving, and leveraging financial and volunteer resources. The department’s nationally and internationally recognized programs support residents throughout their life course, from infants to elders. Human Services billing sections supports multiple programs that provide community services to residents. The billing staff work with a variety of HSD staff, including clinicians and administrators, as well as program vendors and state and county agencies.

The Position

The City of Fremont, Human Services Department - Billing Unit is looking looking for candidates who are eager and interested to learn and grow their finance and billing skills and be part of a dynamic customer service oriented team. Under direct supervision of the Management Analyst II, the Human Services Billing Unit Accounting Specialist I will work as part of a billing team and also across the various department divisions. This position is responsible for assisting in the billing process of our Medi-Cal programs through the use of our new electronic health record system and other county, state and

funder based billing systems. Our department provides an array of counseling and case management services to children, youth, seniors and families across the Tri-City area. The Billing Unit is tasked with ensuring that our services are billed to the appropriate sources. The Billing Unit is committed to providing an engaging and supportive work environment, where staff are cross trained, have opportunities to work independently, and learn specialized skills.

Advancement to level II requires gaining the knowledge, skills, and experience that meet the qualifications and demonstrating the ability to consistently perform the work of the level II classification.
