The Library currently has one hourly Library Aide opening. The position will work 15-18 hours per week. (Note: This recruitment will also be used to establish an eligibility list for future hourly Library Aide openings over the next few months.)

The position requires working day, night, and weekend shifts at the Newbury Park Library, 2331 Borchard Road, Newbury Park, CA 91320 and may include shifts at the Grant R. Brimhall Library, 1401 E. Janss Road, Thousand Oaks, CA 91362.

 

Primary responsibilities:

Circulation Services staff perform a variety of clerical and office support duties in a teamwork-oriented environment.  Primary responsibilities include providing in-person service at a Circulation Desk and over the phone, checking materials in and out, resolving problems such as lost and damaged or claims returned items, and registering or updating library cards.  Hourly Library Aides also assist full-time staff in tracking overdue materials, collection notices, and hold requests.

Ideal Candidate

The ideal candidate should possess:

  • Experience working in a public library or one year of general office support or clerical experience
  • Familiarity with library services, practices, and terminology
  • Ability to be a team player who works well with others, is motivated, and can understand and follow directions
  • Experience with library and office-related equipment and computer software
  • Knowledge to effectively utilize computer software, including Microsoft Word and Excel, as well as an integrated library system such as Sierra
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
  • A positive, customer service and team-oriented demeanor
  • Bilingual ability (English/Spanish) is highly desirable 

 

Requirements:

  • Completion of 12th grade, or equivalent
  • Possess and maintain a valid Class C driver's license
  • Have the ability to lift, drag, and push/pull files, paper, books, full book carts, full book bins, documents and materials weighing more than 25 pounds as necessary
