THE POSITION
Join us this summer season for a fun and engaging employment opportunity as a Senior Lifeguard to support the City of Rocklin's upcoming aquatic program and activities taking place at the Rocklin High School pool.
This class is distinguished from the Lifeguard by overall program responsibilities, training and experience. Senior Lifeguards serve as the Lead Lifeguard in providing technical and functional direction over Lifeguards.
Senior Lifeguards play a critical role in ensuring courteous and professional service to all pool attendees, including:
- Providing surveillance of swimmers and guests during City run swim hours.
- Enforcing rules and regulation of City run aquatic facilities.
- Responding to emergency situations at assigned facilities. Administering and coordinating emergency first aid, as necessary.
- Providing superior customer service to all guests by assisting in a polite and expedient manner.
- Assisting the Parks and Recreation Supervisor with overseeing the safe and proper operation of assigned pool lifeguards.
- Maintains order with disruptive patrons and exercises crowd control where warranted; refers escalated issues to the Parks and Recreation Supervisor.
- May be assigned other related duties.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
One season of experience performing duties similar to that of a Lifeguard. Senior Lifeguard experience is highly desirable.
Must be at least 18 years of age at time of appointment.
REQUIRED LICENSES AND CERTIFICATES
- Possession of a current American Red Cross Lifeguard certificate, or equivalent, by date of appointment.
- Possession of a current American Red Cross CPR/AED certificate, or equivalent, by date of appointment. (Obtained in ARC Lifeguard Certification)
- Possession of a current American Red Cross First Aid certificate, or equivalent, by date of appointment. (Obtained in ARC Lifeguard Certification)
If you do not currently possess the required American Red Cross Lifeguard certificate, or equivalent certificates, you may be eligible to attend a future certification training offered through the City of Rocklin, as a condition of employment. This offering will be City paid and at no cost to the conditional employee.

This is a temporary, part-time, at-will classification that assists the Parks and Recreation Department with City aquatic programs and activities. Temporary employees typically work less than twenty-eight (28) hours per week, not to exceed 990 hours in a fiscal year (July 1st through June 30th). The expected duration of the employment is six (6) months or fewer, dependent on the needs of the City. Anticipated scheduling needs are between the hours of 11:30am and 4:30pm.
Temporary employees are not eligible for benefits, excluding those benefits prescribed by law.
Please note: temporary part-time employment with the City of Rocklin is on an 'at-will' basis meaning the City or the employee may terminate employment at any time with or without cause.
