THE POSITION

The City of Rocklin is looking for two Maintenance Workers to assist in the Parks Division of the Parks and Recreation Department. The Maintenance Worker is a temporary position and incumbents work on an as-needed basis, not to exceed 28 hours per week and up to 999 hours per fiscal year. Temporary employment does not provide any guarantee of continued employment and the City of Rocklin may end the assignment at any time. Temporary employees are not eligible for any other benefits except where required by law, and there is no guarantee of future permanent employment.

An example of duties are:

• Performs flood control measures by clearing creeks of obstructions, keeping drains clean and clear, and preparing sandbags in case of emergency.
• Performs crack sealing of asphalt, and backfilling trenches and excavations on City streets; performs repair, maintenance, and construction of sidewalks, curbs, and gutters.
• Removes concrete, builds forms, pours concrete, and performs other concrete work around City buildings as required.
• Empties trash cans, picks up and removes debris, litter, and trash from parks, athletic fields, trails, and landscaped areas throughout the City; removes graffiti and other unwanted markings from City-owned property.
• Plants, mows, prunes, and maintains turf, trees, shrubs, and plants; clears sites of weeds.
• Performs construction and repair of landscapes and other park facilities such as installing and maintaining signs, installing park structures, and installing and maintaining fences.
• Paints or stains and pressure washes and cleans park amenities and fencing.
• May apply pesticide, herbicide and other pest management treatments to vegetation and landscaped areas.
• Makes minor adjustments on service equipment; maintains tools and equipment in working order.
• Operates trucks, trailers, and other automotive equipment as required.
• Maintains logs of daily activities.
• Performs related duties as assigned.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

Equivalent to graduation from high school
AND
Three (3) months of experience as a laborer in construction, maintenance, or landscaping work 

Licenses and Certifications

• Possession of, or ability to obtain and maintain, a valid California Class C Driver License and a satisfactory driving record is required. Individuals who do not meet this requirement due to a disability will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis.

THE POSITION: The Public Works Department at the City of San Mateo has an opportunity for a per diem laboratory analyst to perform a variety of physical, chemical, biological and bacteriological analyses of water and wastewater according to standard methods and procedures.

• Two years of college study with at least twenty semester units of chemistry, biology or related science. A Bachelor's degree in chemistry, biology or related science would also be qualifying.
• One (1) year of work experience in an analytical laboratory.

DEFINITION

• OPERATOR I (COLLECTION)
  Under general supervision or direction, the Operator I (Collection) is responsible for the overall operation of the wastewater collections system, which includes the repair and maintenance of the sewer collection system and pump stations.
   
• OPERATOR II (COLLECTION)
  Under general direction, supervises the operation of the Collections System of the Wastewater Treatment Plant on a designated shift to ensure processing and discharge of wastewater which complies with performance standards of State regulatory agencies; perform any combination of tasks involved with inspection, construction, repair, and preventive, corrective and emergency maintenance of sanitary personnel; prepares logs and other records; performs maintenance tasks as required and other related duties as required.
   

ESSENTIAL FUNCTION REQUIREMENTS

For the Collections System, ability to locate, detect cause, and correct sewer stoppages; detect and perform minor repairs and adjustments to sewer equipment; maintain pumps and related mechanical equipment; and report to work at any time during an emergency.  Perform electrical and mechanical repairs, maintenance work and modification to equipment used in a water quality control plant; use various mechanic’s tools with skill and accuracy; available for standby on sewer calls on a rotation basis; follow oral and written directions; maintain working relationships with other employees.  (See Physical Demands section as it relates to Essential Function Requirements.)

BASIC EXAMPLE OF DUTIES

  • Performs operation and maintenance on sanitary sewer pump station.
  • Responds to service requests regarding clogged mainline stoppages, mainline breaks, manholes and related structures.
  • Performs mechanical work in repairing and installing equipment.
  • Operates compressor, air gun tamper, backhoe and other related construction tools.
  • May undertake minor carpentry, plumbing, cement work and electrical.
  • Performs general grounds maintenance work, sweeping, sanding, painting.
  • Maintains routine and daily records.
     
• OPERATOR II (COLLECTION)
  Duties may include, but are not limited to the following:
  • Lead a crew in the safe performance of preventive, corrective, and emergency maintenance of sanitary sewers
  • Respond to service requests, unclog mainline stoppages, and keep records on sewer line cleanings and state of existing problems within the Collections System
  • Repair mainline breaks, replace broken pipe and reconnect pipe sections
  • Operate power rodder, jet truck, backhoe and TV equipment
  • Conduct periodic inspections and perform routine maintenance and minor repairs to wastewater pumping stations and equipment
  • Keep daily logs and records on equipment; makes reports to the supervisor
  • Provide technical assistance and prescribe work methods and safety procedures to maintenance workers and utility workers
  • Inspect installation of new sewer lines, laterals and related structures; may study blueprints and specifications preparatory to inspection of construction project
  • Supervises the work of all operating personnel assigned to shift; trains and evaluates performance of shift employees, enforces safety procedures in conformance with policy of plant’s safety program.

To perform a variety of skilled and semiskilled horticulture tasks in the construction, maintenance and repair of parks, pools, recreation, and cemetery facilities and buildings.  The purpose of this recruitment is to fill a current vacancy in the Community Services Department, as well as establish an eligibility list for future vacancies.

IDEAL CANDIDATE

The City of Woodland is looking to fill a Park Maintenance Worker I/II position in the
Community Services Department. The Ideal Candidate for the current vacancy is someone
who has a good understanding of many aspects of the maintenance of facilities, parks, janitorial, and horticulture. This position requires a “team player” with good interpersonal, time
management, and communication skills. The Ideal Candidate must be highly self-motivated,
able to work independently with minimal oversite, demonstrate good judgement, as well as be
organized, flexible, approachable, resourceful, and a positive team contributor on a
consistent basis. This position will also require the selected candidate work weekends,
standby and overtime as necessary.

Park Maintenance Worker I:

This is an entry-level classification in the park maintenance worker series. Positions in this class normally perform a variety of unskilled and semi-skilled duties. May be required to work any shift, including a regular work-shift that includes weekends and holidays, and routinely participate in a weeklong stand-by shift. Park Maintenance Worker I will usually exercise less independence, discretion and judgment on matters related to work procedures and methods.

Park Maintenance Worker II:

This is the journey level in the park maintenance worker series. This class differs from Parks Maintenance Worker I in that incumbent performs more complex parks maintenance duties, including the requirement to work any shift, weekends, and holidays, to work independently, exercise judgment, and operate the full range of tools and mechanical equipment related to a specific assignment. The incumbent Park Maintenance Worker II may also be expected to assist in the oversight and training of less experienced personnel. Positions in this class are flexibly staffed and are normally filled by advancement from the Park Maintenance I level, or when filled from the outside requires prior work experience.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS 

Performing general grounds cleaning, including emptying trash receptacles, mopping, sweeping, and raking City parks, ball field maintenance/set up, and Cemetery as needed. Maintain irrigation, maintain synthetic turf, mow, cultivate, prune, weed, renovate, and fertilize grass, plants, trees, flowers, and shrubs. Operate power mowers, turf groomers, chain saws, rototillers, aerators, hedgers, spreaders, front-end loader, edgers, air compressors, and other equipment. Utilize proper safety precautions related to all performed work, while all safe work procedures i.e., necessary PPE. Drive vehicles and equipment as required. Prepare and maintain athletic fields and related facilities, swimming pools, and cemetery/interment operations.  Regular, predictable, consistent and timely attendance is an essential function of the position, in that the failure of such attendance undermines the City’s ability to provide critical services to the employees, department and the public.

OTHER JOB FUNCTIONS 

Install, maintain and replace playground equipment and fences; assemble tables, benches and bleachers. Applying fertilizers and spraying various herbicides and pesticides in City park and recreation areas. Respond to inquiries from the general public. Install, maintain and repair irrigation systems. Assist in setting up community services and special events. Maintain, repair and replace plumbing systems and fixtures such as light switches, motors, wall receptacles, faucets, drinking fountains, water heaters, water closet, urinals, water regulators and pressure valves, and building maintenance as required. Work cooperatively with others. Meet all Standby Program requirements; work any shift including weekends and holidays. Perform related duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

Park Maintenance Worker I:

Education:  High School Diploma or equivalent.

Experience:  Six (6) months of experience in the care and maintenance of landscapes or facilities.

License and Certificate:  Required upon hire, possession of a valid California Driver’s License.

Park Maintenance Worker II:

Education:  High School Diploma or equivalent.

Experience:  One (1) year of experience performing duties comparable to those of a Park Maintenance Worker I in the City of Woodland.

License and Certificate:  Required upon hire, possession of a California Driver’s License. It is highly desirable to possess a State of California Qualified Applicator Certificate, Category B.

THE POSITION

The City Attorney's Office seeks a well-qualified, motivated attorney for the position of Assistant City Attorney. This is an at-will position that serves as part of the City's executive management team. 

The Assistant City Attorney will provide legal advice, counsel, and representation to the City in areas including, but not limited to, land use, real estate, housing, and environmental law. THE IDEAL CANDIDATE

The ideal candidate will have a broad base of knowledge and experience in a variety of areas of municipal law such as the Brown Act, Political Reform Act, Public Records Act, contracts, personnel matters, public safety, public works, and advisory and litigation services. THE DEPARTMENT
