StopWaste is hiring an Energy Council Program Services Specialist to work on Bay Area Regional Energy Network (BayREN) programs. The position will conduct community outreach and engage with stakeholders to make energy upgrades and electrify multifamily and single family buildings in Alameda County and the larger Bay Area. It will also work on growing and strengthening the clean energy workforce to help achieve energy and climate goals. The ideal candidate will have deep experience engaging and developing relationships with community partners. The position may be filled at the Program Services Specialist I, II, or Senior role depending on the applicant pool and the discretion of StopWaste staff.

Under general or direct supervision at the lower level and under direction at the higher level, incumbents perform varied professional technical, analytical, and administrative tasks in providing staff support to departments and divisions to; perform contract administration functions; compile and maintain records; conduct special studies, surveys, and research assignments in a variety of project, program, service, and/or operational procedures; and, to perform related work as required.

CLASS CHARACTERISTICS:

The Sustainability Analyst I is the entry-level class in the Sustainability Analyst series. Incumbents in this class provide varied professional clerical and technical support in the administration of solid waste, recycling, organics and related sustainability programs.

The Sustainability Analyst II is the journey-level class in the Sustainability Analyst series. Incumbents are expected to be fully competent in all major solid waste and recycling program functions and able to independently perform assignments.

Incumbents at both levels are required to have an in-depth and comprehensive knowledge of the policies and procedures necessary to achieve program results.

Positions in the Sustainability Analyst series are flexibly staffed. Incumbents may advance to the higher level after gaining the knowledge, skill, experience, licenses, and certifications which meet the qualifications for and demonstrating the ability to perform the work of the higher-level class.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES (illustrative only): 

• Perform research, field investigations and statistical analyses related to integrated solid waste management including waste reduction, reuse, recycling, and composting; compile and analyze data; identify and evaluate discrepancies, and proactively find solutions; formulate recommendations and viable alternatives; prepare, deliver, and/or present a variety of oral and/or written reports. 
• Assist in developing and conducting special projects, studies, surveys, and research assignments, policy, services, public education and outreach, data management, contract administration, for an office, department or division, as assigned. 
• Designs and develops a variety of materials and activities to promote, implement, and evaluate assigned sustainability and environmental programs in a manner that will enhance public awareness, educate citizens to relevant environmental issues, and encourage proactive and cooperative problem-solving activities. 
• Works with program staff on contract administration, program development, maintenance and continuous improvement. 
• Provide sustainability related technical assistance to city departments, divisions, staff, the public, community organization and businesses. 
• Analyze and initiate recommendations to develop, improve, and/or ensure legislation compliance for department or division programs, systems, procedures, and methods of operation. 
• Organizes and participates in assigned program area activities, including contract management and compliance, customer service and outreach, data collection and analysis, and presentation of technical and specialized data. 
• Assist in the implementation and maintenance of programs, services, systems, policies, processes, procedures, manuals, and forms for use in operation; provide personnel training on related areas. 
• Assist in the development, coordination, and monitoring of the department or division budget; research and evaluate costs; provide budget tracking tasks as required. 
• Participate in administering contracts with contractors, subcontractors and consultants, ensure documents and reports comply with City contract standards; monitor programs for compliance with applicable scopes of service, rules, regulations, laws, and policies. 
• Represent the City and/or department in interdepartmental, community, civic and professional meetings, public forums, and conferences as required; make presentations as necessary. 
• Builds and maintains positive working relationships with coworkers, other City employees, other organizations and their representatives, and the general public, exhibiting effective customer service and communication skills. 
• Participates with other City departments, community service providers, consultants, other jurisdictions and agencies in sustainability and environmental program development and coordination efforts as well as legislative advocacy and education. 
• Monitor and coordinate the daily operation of assigned functional area; perform detail-oriented work and maintain accurate records, systems, processes, and statistics; evaluate using appropriate metrics. 
• Develops and maintains databases, contract compliance tracking records, and forms as needed. 
• May conduct presentations related to City's sustainability and solid waste and recycling programs and services upon request. 
• Perform other related duties as assigned.

A Responsible individual is needed to maintain and enforce proper city procedures and policies in our parks, parking lots and ball fields.   Park monitors will perform park inspections and enforce park policies, supervise patrons, renters and daily facility management. Park monitors and parking lot attendants must stand firm on policies, control diverse situations and always possess a friendly disposition and professional demeanor.  Park monitors and parking lot attendants must also have the ability to communicate and respond to customer service concerns, handle all weather conditions and be reliable with a strong work ethic and personal integrity. Park monitors and parking lot attendants will be required to wear a city uniform while on duty.

Under general supervision, lead, and conduct activities in the delivery of recreation program areas including camps, preschool, tots, after school programs, parks and nature, teens, boxing, youth and adult sports, special events, and active adults; oversee the proper use of indoor and outdoor community recreational facilities, perform a variety of custodial tasks; assist the public and staff in their use of the facility.

Distinguishing Characteristics: 

Under general supervision, the Recreation Aide assists in the proper use of a community recreational facility and assist Recreation Leaders in providing a variety of recreation programs. The Recreation Leader classification is distinguished from the Recreation Aide level in the complexity of duties assigned, independence of action taken, the amount of time spent performing the duties, the nature of the public contact made, and its training responsibilities of new staff. Positions at this level are required to be fully trained in all procedures related to the assigned area of responsibility.

LARPD is seeking a summer intern to support the Summer Youth Volunteer Program.  Applicants should have the equivalent of one year of college credits completed toward a degree.  Candidates interested in learning about recreation, volunteer management, and community services will be given preference.  Interested candidates should complete an application online. The intern will be responsible for key deliverables while learning about special districts and the Livermore community.

Community Outreach: Summer Youth Volunteers Project Plan 

The Community Outreach team is seeking a summer intern for a 10–12-week assignment.  The goal of the internship is to gain valuable experience managing high school aged volunteers that will support a variety of summer camps and programs throughout the district.  

Key duties 

• Be primary point of contact for Summer Youth Volunteers. 

• Assist with volunteer orientation and ongoing training sessions throughout the summer. 

• Oversee volunteer schedule. 

• Track volunteer hours logging. 

• Create program completion documents. 

• Assist with planning end of summer recognition event. 

Key deliverables will be: 

• Maintain volunteer hour tracking and create end of summer recap report. 

• Complete summer training and check-in reports. 

• Create and distribute volunteer completion certification with hours totals for all summer volunteers. 

• Report any concerns from staff and volunteers or development opportunities for volunteers through regular check-ins. 

What learning will occur for the intern? 

• Experience managing volunteers. 

• Learn how summer programs work/run in a special district.  

• Gain familiarity with volunteer management software. 

• Graphic design creating infographics and end-of-summer reports. 

• Communication opportunities both with program staff and volunteers. 

Timing 

June-August 9th.  Interns may start and end later but need to be present for the core Sessions slated for the entire month of June, July and through August 9th.  

Work hours will be Monday – Friday 9:00 am – 5:00 pm, 40 hours per week during the 12 weeks of employment.  The pay rate will be $20 per hour.  All interns will be required to successfully complete a Department of Justice fingerprint clearance and undergo a TB test as a condition of employment.

ABOUT THE POSITION

This Recruitment is for Returning Moraga Day Camp staff. The returning Recreation Leader I and II position has previous experience working for Moraga Day Camp and is responsible for providing high-level programs and services through the Parks and Recreation Department which provide concrete, positive experiences for youth and which promote qualities that are essential to raising successful young people. 

Summer Camp Program Dates:

Mandatory Training Dates:  May 18, 2024 & June 3 through June 7, 2024

Program Dates: June 10 - August 09, 2024.  Must be available for 7 of the 9 weeks.

The Urban Forestry Division of the City of Fremont has two paid internships available for immediate hiring.  Through a variety of tasks and duties, interns will gain well-rounded, first-hand work experience and observational knowledge in the fields of urban forestry management and municipal administration.

The Role

The role consists of assisting city staff in the preservation, maintenance, and sustainable growth of Fremont’s urban forest. Examples of division responsibilities include program administration, tree assessment, community outreach and education, grant management, data collection and analysis, contracts and vendor management, project management, as well as other related responsibilities.

Examples of duties that may be assigned to interns include processing data through the city’s GIS- based tree data management system, reviewing and processing permit applications, developing and supervising tree planting initiatives, conducting public outreach and education, providing technical expertise, completing field work and assessments, Urban Forestry Management Plan implementation, and other duties as assigned.

With assistance from city staff and resources, this role will be expected to achieve International Society of Arboriculture (ISA) arborist certification before the term ends.

The Position

The Solid Waste Manager reports directly to the Environmental Services Manager and is responsible for the administration of multiple integrated waste management contracts and programs within the Environmental Services Division. This position supervises a team of technical staff who execute various integrated solid waste management activities and may serve as the division head in the absence of the Environmental Services Manager.

Examples of Duties

• Manage multiple City franchise agreements for solid waste collection, material transfer and recovery, and landfill disposal including negotiating contract terms and monitoring performance.
• Oversee the division’s solid waste programs including planning, organizing, and implementing programs to create environmentally sound and cost-effective methods for the disposal of garbage and household hazardous waste, recovery of recyclables, diversion of organic material, and waste prevention.
• Plan, develop, and oversee the work of integrated waste management staff, providing leadership and fostering staff development.
• Receive and respond to complex customer service requests concerning scope of program, technical information, and service delivery issues.
• Oversee the Division’s public education, outreach, and special events to promote environmentally responsible and sustainable behavior.
• Analyze proposed legislation affecting integrated waste management activities, develops and implements program and policies to ensure City compliance with regulatory mandates.
• Conduct analysis and prepare reports and documents as required by regulatory agencies and for City Council study sessions and meetings.
• Participate in budget preparation and administration.
• Make presentations to City Council, boards, commissions or other public groups and acts as the City designated representative as assigned.
• Other related duties as assigned.
