Job Responsibilities:
The Veterinary Technician will perform  basic physical examination of animals on intake; understand infectious disease; communicate effectively with colleagues and the public; perform functions required for pre- and post-surgical care including inducing anesthesia; maintain all necessary controlled substance drug logs and patient records.

Example of Job Duties

• Provide intake examinations and interviews.
• Assess, record and maintain health and temperament information on all animals.
• Conduct pre-adoption health evaluations for dogs, cats, and other species.
• Vaccinate animals, provide treatment, and administer medications as prescribed by a veterinarian.
• Assist veterinarians with high volume spay/neuter surgeries and other medical procedures.
• Administer injections including, but not limited to, anesthetics, pain medications, and vaccinations.
• Intubate animals, place intravenous catheters, perform venipuncture and administer fluids as needed.
• Monitor vital signs of sedated and anesthetized patients in pre-operative, operative, and post-operative phases.
• Ensure anesthetic machines, pulse oximeters, scales, and other equipment are functional and report equipment that is not working properly.
• Work with coworkers to clean and disinfect animal areas, equipment, instruments and facility while utilizing appropriate personal protective equipment.
• Maintain inventory of all pharmaceuticals, medical equipment, and supplies.
• Maintain accurate and thorough records of all surgeries, drugs administered, and other information according to all mandated federal, state, local, and professional standards, and procedures.
• Provide technical and functional lead supervision and training to animal services staff and volunteers.
• Conduct humane euthanasia of domestic animals and wildlife.
• Communicate with all clients in a non-judgmental, effective and professional manner.
• Communicate basic veterinary medical concepts to clients, including, but not limited to vaccine protocols and anesthetic risks.

Essential Duties

What you will do:  

Duties may include but are not limited to the following:

Receives animals at the Shelter, isolating those showing signs of disease from healthy ones.
 
Vaccinates animals as they are received and administers medicine under instructions from a veterinarian; prepares identification collars and places on animals for accurate records.
 
Responds to questions from the public about animal breeds, temperament and adoptions;  advises public on appropriate choices for adoption and the proper care, treatment and control of animals.
 
Cleans, disinfects and maintains kennels and kennel area; performs dishwashing and laundering tasks.
 
Maintains a computerized log and record of all animals at shelter.
 
Reports any animals exhibiting symptoms of ill health or communicable disease.
 
Maintains inventories and supplies of food, medicines and controlled drugs, completing the necessary forms.

Assists in supervising volunteers.
 
Lifts and loads animals weighing up to seventy-five pounds.

The City of Berkeley is seeking a Housing Development Specialist (Community Development Project Coordinator)! The Position

The Veterinary Technician will assist in the care of animal patients at the City’s animal shelter. Additional key responsibilities include use of medical care equipment, as well as moving and handling domestic animals and wildlife. The Veterinary Technician reports to the Animal Services Manager and assists the veterinarian, animal services officers and administrative team and is responsible for quality humane treatment of all animals in the care of the Tri-City Animal Shelter. The Department

The Public Works Department plays a key role in shaping the community and its future as Fremont. Public Works is responsible for engineering, transportation, civic facilities, inspections, and maintenance for the City. The Engineering Division within Public Works helps deliver land development projects, executes the design and construction of public projects, and maintains and enhances the City’s transportation network.

The Position

The Facilities Design and Construction Project Supervisor I/II will be a member of the Public Works Department and reports to the Facilities and Real Property Manager. Public Works is responsible for the daily maintenance and upkeep of city infrastructure and design and construction of new or improved public facilities. Key responsibilities of the Facilities Design and Construction Project Supervisor I/II include project management, liaison, inspection, and contract administration for the design, construction, and modification of over 150 City buildings and structures.

Performs inspection for street re-surfacing public works projects. Clears and cleans roadsides, gutters, culverts and other drainage facilities. Participates in the removal, repair and replacement of storm drainage pipe. Due to variety of outdoor settings, needs to be able to work in all weather and terrain conditions. Due to 24-hour maintenance needs, needs to be able to work at all times of day and night. Operates light and heavy motorized construction and maintenance equipment including grappler, rollers, VacCon trucks, street sweepers, backhoes, compressors and pneumatic tools. Drives equipment to and from job sites. Loads and unload equipment; inspect equipment. Excavates, backfills, grades and rolls construction and repair sites. Cleans work sites and equipment. Perform preventative maintenance, adjustments and minor repairs on equipment. Cleans equipment. Greases, lubricates and fuels vehicles. Changes backhoe buckets and teeth. Perform various Sanitation tasks including drain inlet cleaning, storm line inspection and street sweeping. Applies paints, lacquers, enamels, epoxies, reflective coatings and other protective and traffic safety materials. Manufactures traffic signs using computerized process. Determines correct location and placement of street sign post; assemble and install signs. Prepares adhesives and install raised pavement markers.
