Recreation Specialists provide a variety of hands-on support activities to an assigned program or division. Recreation Specialists are expected to:

• Provide professional and courteous customer service at all times
• Provide hands-on operational support in City recreation centers, sports facilities, afterschool and summer camp programs, and/or nutrition and food service programs
• Set up, arrange, and take-down furniture and equipment for classes, rentals, meetings, and special events
• Effectively use, learn and perform tasks on recreation software systems 
• Monitor the proper and safe use of City facilities by the general public and ensure adherence to rules and policies
• Ensure the cleanliness and safety of facilities throughout the day
• Demonstrate proficiency with word processing, data entry and organization

Depending on the specific work assignment, Recreation Specialists also are responsible for:

• Handling money and electronic transactions
• Organizing class sign in sheets
• Monitoring, organizing, and running community programs
• Basketball, volleyball and softball scorekeeping
• Leading children in organized afterschool and summer camp programs and activities
• Food preparation and food service in City nutrition programs.

Responsible individual is needed to maintain and enforce proper city procedures and policies for our CAREavan Safe Overnight Parking program. This program allows families and individuals currently living in their vehicles a safe place to park overnight. Safe Overnight Parking Attendants would perform site inspections and enforce site policies, supervise participants, and manage each CAREavan facility. The City of Berkeley invites you to apply for the position of Camp Maintenance Mechanic (Non-Career Intermittent) in the Parks, Recreation and Waterfront Department! In this role, you will have the opportunity to keep our camps running smoothly by performing both routine and heavy, physical work in the construction, maintenance, repair and cleaning of camp facilities. You'll operate a variety of hand and power tools to perform preventive maintenance and repair.

Our two overnight camps are located near South Lake Tahoe and Yosemite. 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

A typical way of gaining the knowledge, skills, and abilities for this position is: Equivalent to graduation from high school, and one (1) year of experience in construction and maintenance.

State of California Drinking Water Treatment Certifications (Grade 1 or 2) desirable. Must possess and maintain a valid California non-commercial (Class C) driver's license, and have a satisfactory driving record. Must possess sufficient strength and stamina to lift and carry objects weighing up to 80 pounds and be able to perform sustained heavy physical labor. Must be willing to work outdoors in all weather conditions and on off-hour shifts in emergency situations.

The Newark Recreation and Community Services Department is seeking enthusiastic individuals who are not only passionate about working with the public but also possess a genuine interest in coaching kids and making a positive impact as role models in their lives. In this role, you will have the opportunity to provide instruction in swim and serve as a lifeguard at assigned swimming facilities. PROGRAM LEADER (SPORTS AND FITNESS)

Salary Range: $16.54 to $22.05/hour, DOE

This is a part-time, temporary, non-benefitted position; 15-20 hours per week (not to exceed 950 hours per calendar year); predominantly afternoon/evening schedule, some weekends.

DEFINITION

The Town seeks gym monitors, scorekeepers, and leaders for a variety of youth and adult sports. Sports may include, but are not limited to basketball, softball, and bocce ball. Sports knowledge is preferred. All staff will be cross-trained for multiple sports. CPR/FA certification is recommended but not required.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND EXERCISED

Program Leader receives supervision from the Program Coordinator and/or Program

The City of San Bruno is currently accepting applications for Public Safety Dispatcher, Per Diem candidates. 

The Position 

The San Bruno Police Department is recruiting for Public Safety Dispatchers. The San Bruno Police Department has a long-standing tradition of small-town service with big-city dedication to public safety.  Public Safety Dispatchers are responsible for public safety dispatch and related records management activities. This position operates on a 24-hour, 365 days per year basis, and may be assigned to either a day, swing, or graveyard shift on a regular, rotational basis that includes nights, weekends, and holidays.  Public Safety Dispatchers perform a wide range of duties involving radio, telephone, and computers, applying various procedures and codes. Dispatchers receive and transmit emergency and non-emergency telephone and radio traffic as well as process communication reports, records, and radio logs, while maintaining a high level of confidentiality.  Dispatchers may also support the Police Department by performing clerical tasks, training, assisting with fingerprinting, and being accountable for financial transactions.  This position is integral in supporting the goals and objectives of the City and Police Department.   

Essential Duties 

• Receives and transmits emergency telephone and radio traffic.   

• Maintains and processes a variety of communications reports, records and radio logs. 

• Operates a dispatch console, uses Computer Aided Dispatch (C.A.D.) System and other computer programs to process information and records. 

• Maintains a high level of confidentiality. 

• Performs collateral duties including a variety of related clerical tasks: assisting in preparation of work schedules; training and evaluating performance of new employees; conducting training sessions; assisting in fingerprinting and jail operations, which may include searching prisoners; and is accountable for handling cash, bond, and check transactions.  

• Plans, organizes, and directs dispatching and related activities on an assigned shift. This may include preparing schedules and prioritizing work; observing work performed by Dispatcher I employees to ensure compliance with standards; approving time off; conducting employee evaluations; and providing effective recommendations on personnel matters. 

• Prepares and maintains training and procedure manuals.  As required, prepares special reports, and undertakes projects for Management Staff.  

• May act as Records/Dispatcher Supervisor in their absence. 

• Maintains liaison with other Department Divisions, City Departments, and other law enforcement and emergency response agencies. 

• Maintains various C.A.D and Record Management Files. 

• Performs related duties and responsibilities as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

Education

Certificates and Licenses 

• Must possess and maintain a valid California Driver’s License, Class C with a good driving record. 

• Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST) Basic Dispatch Certificate is required.  

Special Requirements 

• Possess excellent vision and hearing skills, with ability to sit, talk, type, hear, and walk for extended periods of time as well as lift or move up to twenty-five (25) pounds.
