This pivotal position will lead the city’s efforts in developing and implementing affordable housing programs, working closely with Planning Division staff on housing development projects, and spearheading long-term housing initiatives. The Housing Policies and Programs Manager will play a crucial role in ensuring that Newark remains a vibrant and inclusive community for all residents.

This position is in the Planning & Housing Division of the Community Development Department and reports to the Deputy Community Development Director.  

EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING

Any combination of education and experience that would provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the required qualifications would be:

Education:

• Possession of a Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in city, urban or environmental planning, architecture urban planning or a related field.

Experience:

• Five (5) years of increasingly responsible experience in housing development and rehabilitation, planning, or related field including two (2) years of administrative, lead, or supervisory responsibilities related to planning, organizing, and coordinating housing programs.

License:

• Possession of a California driver license and a satisfactory driving record.

The City of Newark is looking to hire an Engineering Technician in the Public Works Department. We are seeking an eager, enthusiastic individual to join our team with a keen interest in public works projects, and an eye for drafting and design in the engineering space. 

The Engineering Technician I performs a variety of functions related to the maintenance and smooth operation of the City's traffic signal and street light system; undertakes traffic studies on parking, speed, and  signal warrants;  assists in the preparation of public works projects' plans, charts, graphs, agreements and exhibits; inspects public works and private development projects; and performs related duties as assigned.

EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING

Any combination of education, experience and training that would provide the required knowledge, skills and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the required qualifications would be:

Education:

• Possession of an Associate’s degree or equivalent from an accredited college or university with major course work in engineering or a related field

Experience:

• Six (6) months of drafting, surveying, or other related civil engineering experience with a municipality, county government, or consulting firm under the general supervision of a civil engineer.

*Education may be substituted with experience on a year for year basis to a maximum of two years.

License or Certificates:

• Possession of a valid driver license and a satisfactory driving record throughout employment.

The City of Newark is seeking dedicated professionals to be Public Safety Dispatchers and be members of a team providing excellent service to our community. The City of Newark is seeking an Assistant Planner or an Associate Planner. The level at which an individual is hired depends on their qualifications.

THE POSITION:

The Police Officer Trainee position is an entry level position, requiring no prior law enforcement experience. Applicants are required to possess a valid California Driver’s License, be legally authorized to work in the U.S and be at least 21 years old at time of swear-in. All applicants must possess a strong moral character, as well as good work ethic and maturity. All candidates will be required to undergo comprehensive testing processes to determine their physical and mental suitability for a career in Law Enforcement.

The Police Officer Trainee is a temporary employee.  The trainee attends a P.O.S.T. certified academy.  Upon successful completion of the academy, the trainee will be eligible for appointment to the position of Police Officer.  New Police Officers will receive benefits available to regular employees and will serve an 18-month probationary period.

The Newark Recreation and Community Services Department is seeking enthusiastic individuals who are not only passionate about working with the public but also possess a genuine interest in coaching kids and making a positive impact as role models in their lives. This role involves teaching fundamentals of various sports, coaching, refereeing and scorekeeping for our youth leagues. In addition, this role also oversees our Wednesday adult basketball league.

The Silliman Family Aquatic Center Lifeguard Academy is for those seeking employment with the City of Newark. This program is a beginner-level course that covers Lifeguard Training, Water Park Lifeguard Training, First Aid, CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer, Administering Emergency Oxygen, Swim Lesson Instruction, and center-specific training. Please note that this position requires you to work in an indoor aquatic environment subject to warm/humid temperatures.

**No certifications or previous experience is required! Candidates must be comfortable in the water. Once you successfully pass your lifeguard certification, you’ll get a $1.00 raise to make $19/hour as a lifeguard.**

The Newark Recreation and Community Services Department is looking for Pool Service Technician for our fantastic swim lesson and aquatic programs, to work at the Silliman Activity & Family Aquatic Center. We are looking for someone to perform a wide variety of duties related to maintaining the City’s Aquatics facilities, pools, water slides and property. Swimming experience is desired. Those that are successful in the application review will be invited to attend an interview either in person, or via ZOOM. Please note that this position requires you to work in an indoor aquatic environment subject to warm/humid temperatures.

• Applicants should be able to work at least 12-20 hours per week, year-round, including weekends and holidays, with mandatory trainings. 
• Please note that shift preference is not guaranteed and is based on the program's staffing needs and can change at any time. Please keep this in mind when/if you plan to attend school. 
• Example Schedule: Monday-Friday (12:00 pm – 4:00 pm) or Saturday/Sunday (9:00 am – 3:00 pm)
