THE POSITION

The City is seeking an Assistant Engineer to perform and assist varied civil engineering work in the design, review, construction, and inspection of a variety of municipal and development projects, and to act as a general assistant to senior level departmental staff.  The ideal candidate is committed to public service and excels in and fosters a team environment.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES

Under direction of the Public Works Director or designee, duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:

• Coordinate the development of plans, specifications, and estimates (PS&E) for construction and major repair of public works systems.
• Confer with supervisors and staff regarding project priorities and major repair of public works systems.
• Check subdivision plans for conformance to City standards.
• Administer construction contracts by coordinating with consulting engineers'; inspect project sites to assist in solution of difficult problems; and interpret specifications.
• Participate in the preparation of special engineering studies and reports.
• Coordinate public works systems activities with other City departments, divisions, and sections and with outside agencies.
• Assist in the preparation of the division's budget.
• Review and check tentative and final land division and subdivision improvement plans and agreements for accuracy and conformance with City codes, ordinances and policies.
• Participate in the development of Conditions of Approval for private development projects.
• Assist in the preparation of the Capital Improvement Program (CIP).
• Attend City Council meetings and represent division as required.
• Attend engineering meetings and conferences to keep abreast of current municipal engineering techniques.
• Perform related duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

Knowledge of:

• Principles and practices of engineering as applied to public works and construction projects.
• Methods and techniques used in the design and construction of a variety of public works projects.
• Modern developments, current literature and sources of information regarding the assigned area of engineering.
• Applicable federal and state laws and regulations.
• Applicable laws and regulatory codes related to development and construction.

Ability to:

• Plan, direct and coordinate public works engineering projects.
• Communicate clearly and concisely, orally and in writing as an agent of the City with residents, business partners, and elected officials.
• Prepare specifications, cost estimates, work schedules, plans, maps and reports.
• Make complex engineering computations and check, design, and inspect the construction of a wide variety of public and private facilities.

EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION

Any combination of experience and training that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying.  A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be:

• Experience:  Two years of experience in the performance of engineering work.
• Education:  Equivalent to a Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in engineering.      

LICENSE OR CERTIFICATE

Possession of, or ability to obtain, an appropriate California driver's license, and a satisfactory driving record.        

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS

The City of Pleasant Hill offers a competitive compensation and benefits program. For detailed benefit information, please review the Memorandum of Understanding between the City and Professional & Confidential Employees Association.

• Sign-on Bonus:  One-time $5,000 bonus.  $2,500 on hire and $2,500 after successful completion of 1 year probation. The bonus is subject to taxes and is not reportable to CalPERS.
• Monthly salary: $7,718 to $9,974 and appointment will be based on the qualifications and experience of the selected applicant.  Effective 11/1/2024: 3.25% COLA and Step G added to pay schedule ($7,969 to $10,555/month).  Effective 11/1/2025: 3.5% COLA ($8,248 to $10,924/month).
• Health/Medical Benefit: Choice of coverage with Kaiser or Blue Shield. The City pays 75% of the Kaiser monthly premium at each coverage level. In lieu of medical coverage, the employee may elect to receive $400 (employee only coverage) or $500 (employee + 1 coverage) or $600 (family coverage) in cash or a pre-tax contribution into a MissionSquare Retirement 457 deferred compensation plan.
• Dental & Vision Coverage: City-paid for employee and eligible dependents.
• CalPERS Retirement: Enrollment in either 2%@60 (Classic Member) or 2%@62 (PEPRA New Member).
• MissionSquare Retirement 457 Deferred Compensation & Roth IRA Plans: Voluntary plans available to all employees.

THE POSITION

The City of Daly City is seeking a highly skilled, business-oriented Senior Management Analyst with strong accounting, budgeting and financial management background to assist in budget development, projection and implementation of Citywide budgets.  This position reports to the Assistant Director of Finance and plays a critical role on the City’s budget, working in partnership with other departments.

 

The successful candidate will prepare budget reports, complex financial forecast and analyses, update budget forecasting model, monitor revenues and expenditures, make presentations, and provide staff assistance in support of Citywide activities.

The ideal Police Lieutenant candidate will possess education, experience, training and perspective to help support the department’s direction and ensure its ongoing success. Minimum qualifications for the position include: 

 

• Possess of, and ability to maintain a valid State of California POST Peace Officer Certification
• Four (4) years of progressively responsible experience as a Police Officer including eighteen (18) months supervisory law enforcement experience as a member of a city police department, a county sheriff’s department, a regional park district, a district authorized by statute to maintain a police department, or the California Highway Patrol; and must have successfully completed the required probationary period for the required supervisory position currently or most recently occupied. 
• A bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university is preferred; applicants currently enrolled in a bachelor’s degree program with an accredited college or university, who have completed the equivalent of at least ninety (90) semester units and commit to obtaining a bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university within twelve (12) months of appointment, may also apply.

About the Position:  The Facilities Maintenance Specialist performs all aspects of facilities maintenance for the Administrative Office Facilities, including building operation, vehicle fleet maintenance, landscaped grounds and parking areas, and various physical systems such as HVAC, plumbing, painting, assembly, construction, electrical, data cabling, and security systems.  This position is also responsible for non-routine repairs and improvements at Midpen Field properties as well as performing preventative maintenance tasks, repairs, and minor improvement projects. The Facilities Maintenance Specialist will support Midpen’s utilization of contractors and act as a point of contact for a wide variety of maintenance and repair tasks. The successful performance of this work will require a working knowledge of a broad range of facility maintenance trades and technical principles, as well as a professional background and the ability to coordinate work with other Midpen departments. Work Environment:  This position is part of the Land and Facilities Services Department at the Midpen offices in Los Altos, California and will be required to work onsite Monday through Friday on a 9/80 schedule.  Work will be performed primarily in an office environment and at times at Midpen Field facilities and residential properties located primarily in the field. May be required to work evenings, weekends, and holidays, be called back after hours and on weekends or respond to and performs work in emergency situations as required.  When conducting field assignments, work may include traversing rough, difficult terrain in inclement or hot weather with exposure to poison oak.  Duties will include building and facility work that will require climbing ladders and entering confined spaces.  Ideal candidates will be comfortable working in these types of conditions, as well as in an office environment. Positions in this classification must possess the ability to lift and carry materials and objects weighing up to 60 pounds and must possess the ability to push and pull objects weighing up to 100 pounds, with the use of proper equipment. Employees may interact with upset staff and/or public and private representatives in interpreting and enforcing departmental policies and procedures.

Planning

Natural Resources

The person selected will play an active role in working with resource management specialists/project managers and staff on stewardship projects and activities that will protect some of our most precious and threatened open space resources in Santa Clara and San Mateo Counties. The ideal candidate will assist with meeting scheduling/coordination, summary preparation, project research and filing, database administration/management, public noticing requirements, community engagement, support for in-person and online meetings, budget preparation and reporting, bidding and contracting requirements, presentation materials, and interfacing with a variety of stakeholders, including consultants/contractors, other governmental agencies (e.g. official document filings), and members of the public. 

Real Property/Engineering & Construction (shared)

In Real Property you will assist with title/escrow transactions, recording documents, database management, and interfacing with the Counties on real estate matters.

In Engineering & Construction, work will include working with project managers and staff on projects that will provide public access and protect some of our most precious and threatened open space resources. The ideal candidate will assist with meeting scheduling/coordination/note taking, summary preparation, project research and filing, database administration/management, public noticing requirements, bidding and contracting process, presentation materials, and interfacing with a variety of stakeholders, including consultants/contractors, the Counties (e.g. official document filings), and members of the public.

About the Position:  The incumbent will be a part of a cohesive team of 13 in the Information Systems and Technology Department. Work Environment:  This position is part of Administrative Services at Midpen’s office in Los Altos, California and reports to the IT Program Administrator.  The focus is on in-person support to our internal customers and therefore this position will work fully onsite, Monday through Friday and occasional evenings to support in-person public meetings The selected individual may work a 9/80 schedule depending on staffing levels and operational needs. The position will also require work at the various District field offices. Fieldwork will require driving District vehicles in remote areas on dirt roads, working in temperatures ranging from cold and blustery to hot and dry.

ABOUT THE POSITION

The City of Redwood City is recruiting a Deputy Fire Chief. This position performs responsible management, technical, personnel, budget and administrative work. Typical duties will include planning, directing, supervising and participating in the activities of one or more major divisions in the Fire Department. Under the direction of the Fire Chief, this position will directly supervise all Battalion Chiefs, Fire Marshal, Emergency Preparedness Outreach Coordinator and fire prevention personnel including sworn and non-sworn professional, technical and support personnel. The Deputy Chief may represent the San Carlos Fire Department as the primary liaison, under direction of the Fire Chief. The Department: 

The Community Development Department is comprised of three divisions: Planning, Building, and Housing and Community Services. In general, the Department guides the ongoing physical development of the community, to ensure that construction conforms to the standards of the City and State. Within the Department, the Housing and Community Services Division provides strategic leadership for the City’s housing program and facilitates the development and preservation of affordable housing and the delivery of community services for lower income residents.

 

The Housing and Community Services Division is staffed by nine (9) full-time positions. Specific activities within the Division include administration of the City’s inclusionary housing program for rental and ownership units, loans for new affordable housing development and rehabilitation, the long-term compliance of the City’s affordable housing portfolio, and management of the City’s Redevelopment legacy assets. The Division also administers the City’s federal Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) and HOME Investment Partnerships Act Program (HOME) entitlement grant programs. These grants are used to promote affordable housing, rehabilitate substandard housing, facilitate neighborhood improvements, remove barriers to persons with disabilities, prevent homelessness and reduce its impacts, and to fund public services for low- and moderate-income residents.

The Position: 

The Staff Analyst II will be essential in administering and monitoring compliance of the City's Affordable Housing Programs. This position ensures that multifamily housing projects comply with local, state, and federal regulations. The Staff Analyst II will review, interpret, and apply these regulations, as well as the City’s affordable housing agreements. Responsibilities include overseeing compliance for the affordable rental portfolio, monitoring both existing and new inclusionary units, collaborating with developers on initial marketing and lease-ups, and assisting with complex issues related to rental compliance and reporting requirements. Additionally, the Staff Analyst II will report directly to the Housing Development Officer and provide administrative and clerical support.

Acceptable Substitution: 

A Master's Degree from an accredited college or university in one of the above fields may be substituted for the six (6) months required analytical experience.

 

LICENSES/CERTIFICATIONS

Possession of a valid California Class C driver's license is required at the time of appointment and for the duration of employment.

 

OTHER REQUIREMENTS

• Must be able to perform all of the essential functions of the job assignment.
• Incumbents of this classification may be required to occasionally work overtime and odd and unusual hours.
