LIBRARIAN III, OUTREACH SERVICES SUPERVISOR- HEADQUARTERS 

40 HOURS PER WEEK – FULL TIME

 
We are seeking a customer service driven library professional with excellent communication skills for our Rohnert Park Headquarters. The ideal candidate will have strong outreach, technical, and training skills, and be comfortable developing and implementing new systems.

Under general supervision, this full-time, benefited position recommends systemwide goals and procedures for outreach; reviews/updates public services outreach training curriculum; models outreach skills and tactics for branch staff; identifies and coordinates Sonoma County Library’s presence at large countywide events; improves logistics for coordination of branch-specific outreach.
 
TYPICAL TASKS include, but are not limited to: 

• Mentors and collaborates with branch staff to build relationships and coordinate offsite outreach assignments.
• Designs, implements, and evaluates outreach programs and events tailored to diverse communities.
• Recommends systemwide goals and procedures for outreach; regularly reviews and adjusts outreach goals and programs based on performance data and community feedback.
• Ensures outreach programming is adaptable and meets the unique needs of different communities.
• Provides technical and functional direction to outreach services support staff.
• Trains support staff and branch staff on outreach best practices, outreach programming, and community engagement strategies.
• Identifies potential funding sources and writes grant proposals to support the BiblioBus and outreach programs.
• Participates in budget preparation and administration; prepares cost estimates for budget recommendations; submits justifications for budget items; monitors and controls expenditures
• Supervises the full operations of the multiple outreach vehicles; oversees schedules of Mobile Outreach Vehicles; serves as backup driver for Mobile Outreach Vehicles.
• Ensures the BiblioBus collection is current and relevant by managing circulation and materials maintenance activities.

 
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: 
 
Education and Experience: Master of Library and Information Science (MLIS), Master of Library Science (MLS), or Master of Science in Library Science (MSLS) degree from an accredited college or university; four (4) years of experience as a professional librarian. Must have a valid California driver’s license. Spanish bilingual skills are desired.
 
SALARY RANGE:               Librarian III - $43.99/hour to $54.94/hour

Come lead the Homework Center at the San Bruno Library! 

The City of San Bruno Public Library is currently recruiting for a part-time, temporary Library Assistant—Homework Center Supervisor. Candidates must be able to commit from September 2024 to June 2025, for 17 hours per week and availability Monday 2-6PM, Tuesday 2-6PM, Wednesday 1-6PM and Thursday 2-6PM (with the exception of Library and San Bruno Park School District holidays). Although this is a ten-month position, the program is ongoing, and the successful candidate would be able to continue in subsequent school years.

Under the direction of the Library Services Manager, the Library Assistant—Homework Center Supervisor is responsible for the daily operations of the Library's after-school Homework Center, including classroom management, homework help, supervising and training volunteers, collaborating with library staff, and maintaining accurate records of homework center attendance. The incumbent will be responsible for maintaining a welcoming place for students to do their homework effectively within the larger context of the library, and for planning weekly activities and training/supervising students in the use of the 3-D printer. The homework center is a free, drop-in, after-school program for children in kindergarten through eighth grade.

 MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS 
• Some college coursework 
• Clear and concise oral and written communication skills 
• Ability to assist students with homework and computer skills 
• Ability to relate to the public in a tactful and effective manner 
 
IDEAL CANDIDATE

* This is a part-time/temporary/seasonal position with the City of San Bruno. As such, employees agree to serve in an at-will capacity and understand that service with the City may be terminated at any time. This position works a maximum of 17 hours per week and does not provide any benefits, except for paid sick leave. In accordance with the Healthy Workplaces, Healthy Families Act of 2014, all temporary, part-time, and seasonal employees, who on or after July 1, 2015, work in California for 30 or more days within a year from the commencement of employment are entitled to paid sick leave for prescribed purposes. Employees will accrue one hour of paid sick leave for every 30 hours worked and are entitled to use accrued sick days beginning on the 90th day of employment. Employees may use up to 40 hours (or 5 days) of accrued sick leave in each year of employment.

This position performs a variety of semi-skilled and skilled work in construction, repairs, and installations related to energy conservation, weatherization, and housing rehabilitation services at the Glenn County Community Action Department.  The Housing Rehabilitation Worker III may exercise lead supervision over lower level positions and contract employees. This position is scheduled for forty (40) hours per week. This recruitment may be used to establish a list to fill future vacancies for the next twelve (12) months.

WHAT YOU’LL DO

• Performs a variety of housing rehabilitation and weatherization duties in the maintenance and repair; performs a variety of janitorial, carpentry, plumbing, electrical, blower door testing, and dwelling assessment.
• Weatherizes dwellings and performs energy conservation measures to include weather striping of doors, window repair, installation of, furnace filters, carbon dioxide detectors, caulking, cooler covers, sheetrock, thresholds, doors, windows, etc.
• Installs siding, wood stoves, solar and evaporative coolers; repair rooms and plumbing, installs energy saving devices such as gaskets on faucets, showerheads, and aerators.

POSITION DESCRIPTION:

The Streets Division of the SFMTA which oversees Parking and Curb Management is working on the upgrade and replacement of 28,000+ parking meters citywide involving changes in operating procedures and the additional and/or modification of signage. Parking meters are an integral tool used to mitigate traffic congestion, in support of Muni and our Transit First Policy, by managing parking demand. The project requires the support of a Maintenance Machinist to perform duties within the Operations Unit Parking Meter Shop.

Under general direction, the Maintenance Machinist performs preventive, routine and emergency maintenance and repair of a variety of heavy and light equipment, related systems, and components. This involves supporting Operations Unit trouble shooting and servicing specialty  equipment.

Examples of Important and Essential Duties:

• Sets up and operates a variety of machine tools, stationary as well as portable manual machine tools and Computer Numeric Control (CNC) machine tools such as mills, lathes, drills, saws, etc.
• Rebuilds, refinishes, modifies and/or fabricates replacement parts for pumps, generators, cranes, parking meters, transit vehicles/railway coaches and railway cars, fire alarm boxes, compressors, dredges, pipes lines, barges, ferry terminals and their components.
• Maintains and repairs a variety of instruments and mechanical equipment, including valves, castings, and various metal parts.
• Diagnoses, installs, inspects, and tests machinery, parts and equipment.
• Communicates and works with staff, supervisors, and external contacts to identify and resolve problems.
• Reads and interprets schematic drawings, blueprints, and plans.
• Prepares and maintains records and forms documenting work performed.
• Dismantles and dissembles/assembles light and heavy machines including parking meters and/or equipment.
• Manufactures, fabricates, welds parts based on samples and drawings.
• Performs other related duties as assigned.

Nature of Work:

Involves exposure to adverse physical and working conditions and lifting and/or moving objects weighing in excess of seventy (70) pounds. Requires operating equipment and elevated work platforms with the ability to climb or work at elevted heights. Incumbents will be required to work varying hours and/or shifts, including weekends, evening, and holidays in a 24 hour/7 days-a week operation. May involve traveling in areas not considered desirable and/or safe; may be exposed to hazardous environments. 

Minimum Qualifications:

1. Completion of a recognized four (4) year Machinist's apprenticeship program and two (2) years of fulltime verifiable experience as a journey-level Maintenance Machinist performing duties equivalent to Job Code 7332 Maintenance Machinist (with primary responsibility in maintenance/repair and machine tool operations) OR

   A combination of trade-related training (certificate program or military training program) and fulltime verifiable experience as a journey-level Maintenance Machinist performing duties equivalent to Job Code 7332 Maintenance Machinist (with primary responsibility in maintenance/repair and machine tool operations) totaling six (6) years.

2. Possession and maintenance of a valid Class C California driver license.

Notes on experience:

A. Trade-related training refers to programs such as machine tool technology program.

B. Experience solely as a Computer Numerical Control (CNC) Machinist, Numerical Control (NC) Machinist or Machine Operator (without Manual Maintenance Machinist experience) will not be considered as qualifying.

Substitution:

Completion of a CA Division of Apprenticeship Standards recognized Maintenance Machinist apprenticeship program as evidenced by issuance of a Certificate of Completion of the apprenticeship program under the appropriate authority will substitute for the six (6) years combined work experience.

Desirable Qualifications:

The stated desirable qualifications may be used to identify candidates advancing to the interview process and/or to identify job finalist(s) at the end of the selection process when referred for hiring.

• Experience applying shop theory and bench work such as turning, milling both manual and CNC, chipping, sawing, filing, drilling, welding (Metal inert gas (MIG), tungsten inert gas (TIG), stick and gas welding), soldering, gear cutting, threading, grinding and heavy treatment, and plasma cutting.
• Experience in the maintenance and repair of a variety of equipment including hydraulically, electrically and pneumatically operated machinery; basic composition, characteristics and uses of shop metals and materials and safety practices.
• Experience in reading/modifying schematic drawings, blueprints and doing layout work; understanding and interpreting the designs and measurements indicated on blueprint, equipment, or parts specifications reading and performing the required procedures in operating, instruction, and service manuals.
• Experience in using tools and equipment for working on concrete pavement and subbasements.
• Experience with and ability to use computer-aided design(CAD).
• Experience working in diverse teams at diverse communities.

The Ideal Candidate will have experience working in a library, as well as excellent customer service skills. The Library Technical Assistant position assists the librarians in all aspects of library work.  This particular position will focus on supporting the children’s and teen library divisions as well as outreach to the community. The Ideal Candidate will have strong interpersonal skills, and enjoy working in a team. Ability to work nights and weekends is required.  Ability to understand and speak Spanish is highly desirable.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

Library Technical Assistant I:  This is the entry level class in the paraprofessional Library Technical Assistant series.  This class is distinguished from the Library Technical Assistant II level by the assignment of the more routine and repetitive duties that are performed according to established procedures and under immediate supervision.  Under this concept, positions assigned to the classification of Library Technical Assistant II which become vacant may reasonably be filled at the Library Technical Assistant I level.

Library Technical Assistant II:  This is the journey level class in the Library Technical Assistant series.  These positions may be filled by advancement from the Library Technical Assistant I level or, when filled from the outside, require prior library technical experience.  Appointment to the Library Technical Assistant II level requires that the employee be performing the full range of duties and meet the qualification standards.  A Library Technical Assistant II is expected to perform assigned duties with only occasional instruction or assistance, and work is normally reviewed only on completion.  Adequate performance at this level requires the knowledge of general department policies and procedures.

The following are typical illustrations of duties encompassed by the job class, not an all-inclusive or limiting list:

Serve at a circulation desk, check books in and out of library; issue library cards; conduct and oversee inventories and processing of books and other library materials; maintain bibliographic records; and establish and maintain collection files and records. Provide general information to the public pertaining to library services and programs. Operate and maintain various library-related equipment and general office equipment. Perform standard office support work such as answering telephones, ordering supplies, maintaining files and operating computer terminals. Regular, predictable, consistent and timely attendance is an essential function of the position, in that Employee must be present to work to complete assigned tasks.  Work cooperatively with others.  Under supervision, conduct various special programs and community outreach activities such as story hours and reading programs. May train and assign routine tasks and provide technical instruction to part-time positions in area of responsibility. Locate books and other materials using indices, catalog guides, and computers. Assist patrons in completing requests for materials not available in the local collection and verify completeness of requests; receive and process inter-library loan requests; maintain inter-library loan services. Prepare displays and exhibits. Post, file, maintain recurring accumulative records; compile data and prepare summary activity reports including circulation statistics, user and loan survey reports and materials collection lists. Perform related duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

Any combination of education and experience that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying.  A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be:

Library Technical Assistant I
Education:  Equivalent to completion of the twelfth grade.
Experience:  One (1) year of experience performing general clerical or related work in a public library system.

Library Technical Assistant II
Education:  Equivalent to an Associate Degree in Library Service or related field.
Experience:  Two (2) years of technical and clerical library experience performing duties comparable to those of a Library Technical Assistant I for the City of Woodland.  Please note:  Additional qualifying experience can substitute for the required education on a year-for-years basis up to two years.

The Library Assistant works under general supervision performing a wide variety of library support services related to patron assistance, circulation, automation, acquisitions, and processing; demonstrates a full understanding of all applicable policies, procedures and work methods associated with assigned duties; performs customer service duties as assigned; and any related duties as required.

DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS

The Library Assistant is a position in which incumbents are expected to independently perform the full scope of assigned library support duties.  This class is distinguished from the class of Library Coordinator in that the latter has supervisory and management responsibilities. This class is distinguished from the class of Librarian I/II in that the latter is a professional position that provides more specialized library services. 

SUPERVISION RECEIVED/EXERCISED

Receives general supervision from the Library Coordinator or Director of Library Services/Library Manager. Incumbents of this class do not routinely exercise supervision.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Include but are not limited to the following

• Staffs the circulation, reference, and children’s reference desks and provides superior customer service at these desks. 
• Educates patrons about the Library Code of Conduct, to ensure a positive experience for all patrons. 
• Assists patrons with the online catalog, computers, self-checkout machines, and other library equipment and electronic resources. Demonstrates and educates patrons in the proper use of the equipment and assists when standard issues arise.
• Performs circulation activities, including checking library materials in and out, registering library patrons and issuing library cards, placing holds, and explaining and implementing library policies and procedures. 
• Assists patrons with information inquiries, whether in person, by phone, e-mail, or official social media channels. These inquiries may include directional, informational, reader’s advisory, and basic reference questions. 
• Assists patrons with locating materials within the library and informs patrons of library services and resources. Suggests alternative or additional resources where appropriate. 
• Maintains the library in a neat and orderly condition, including by shelving library materials. 
• Supports the maintenance of the library collection, including by weeding outdated or damaged material; removing damaged items from circulation at service points; and repairing library materials. 
• Processes, catalogs, and prepares new materials for circulation following established procedures. 
• Suggests new materials to benefit the library collection.

WORKING CONDITIONS

Position requires prolonged sitting, standing, walking, reaching, twisting, turning, kneeling, bending, squatting and stooping in the performance of daily office activities.  The position also requires grasping, repetitive hand movement and fine coordination in preparing documents and data using a computer keyboard.  Additionally, the position requires near and far vision in reading correspondence, statistical data and using the computer, and acute hearing is required when providing phone and personal service.  The need to lift, drag and push files, paper and documents weighing up to 25 pounds also is required.

Job Description

Under the supervision of the Piledriver Supervisor I, the Pile Worker performs a variety of manual work in the repair and construction of piers, wharves, and related substructures by removing and replacing decayed and/or damaged caps, stringers, and decking; pulling, driving, framing, and bolting piles; burning old bolts; and repairing docks. Inspects piling underwater, wraps damaged piles and identifies severely damaged piles for replacement. Performs underwater burning, welding, and rigging for underwater projects.

For positions that require diving ability, incumbent must hold a current commercial diving certification. Diving ability includes performing underwater diving work including the ability to inspect underwater piles, wrap damaged piles, cut piles, prep and grout concrete piles, install anodes, designate severely damaged piles for replacement, perform underwater burning, welding, and rigging and familiarity with CAL OSHA regulations related to diving.

The essential duties of the 9330 Pile Worker include but are not limited to:

• Placing, driving, and capping piles.
• Placing stringers, sawing, and laying decking.
• Tearing out decayed and damaged decking, stringers, caps, and pilings.
•  Boring holes and framing timbers.
• Assisting in moving and rigging the piledriver and/or truck crane.
• Assisting in moving and rigging the piledriver by setting up, tearing down, and resetting rigging.
• Making minor repairs to piledriver machinery and equipment.
• Fabricating rigging, both wire rope or synthetic line such as block and tackles, slings, chokers, pennants, and related gear.
• Building, maintaining and using floats, pontoons, or work boats in the maintenance and repair of piers and docks.
• Building and maintaining floats, pontoons, workboats, and rafts.
• Loading and/or unloading piles, timbers, or debris to or from trucks or barges.
• Assisting the dive crew by sending down equipment and tools.
• Using international code of hand signals to signal instructions to the Piledriver Engine Operator.
• Using and maintaining pneumatic and portable gas tools.
• Operating forklifts, vehicles, and boats
• Using and maintaining a wide variety of pneumatic and portable gas tools such as drills, sanders, wrenches, saws, forklifts, torches, boring machines, and other related tools.

Essential duties require the following physical skills and work environment: Some positions require diving ability - for positions that perform underwater diving, candidates are required to pass a medical qualification examination to dive and for the use of a respirator. Sustained physical effort, frequently underwater and under adverse weather conditions such as in rain, rough water, cold temperatures (water and air) and confined spaces; moving large heavy timbers; operating a skiff; and driving Port vehicles; required to lift and carry up to 50 pounds and support dive gear and apparatus from 100 to 150 pounds.  

Qualifications

Experience

Four (4) years of verifiable journey-level experience as a pile worker.

For diving positions only: One (1) year of commercial construction diver experience in addition to the experience described above for a total of five (5) years of experience.

License and Certification

Possession of a valid California driver’s license (to be presented at time of appointment). Insurability under the Port’s automobile liability insurance must be maintained throughout employment.

For diving positions only: Possession of a current certification as a commercial diver by an Association of Commercial Diving Educators (ACDE) accredited dive school.

Desirable Qualifications (Ideal Candidate)

The stated desirable qualifications may be considered at the end of the selection process when candidates are referred for hiring.

The ideal candidate will have:

• Experience with wood, steel and concrete pier construction and marine pile driving operations.
• Experience working on a barge crane conducting pile driving operations.
• Experience maintaining floating assets and marina floats.
• Experience operating boats
• Ability to identify and correct safety hazards.
• Good oral communication skills.

Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC) Card

This position requires that the incumbent be qualified for unescorted access to the Port’s Maritime Transportation System (MTS).  An application for a TWIC card may be submitted after employment has commenced.  Employment in this position requires that the incumbent undergo a criminal history check, immigration check and terrorist threat assessment, including FBI fingerprints, in order to determine eligibility for security clearance.
