What You’ll Do

The Community Services Manager is responsible for planning, directing, and supervising the leisure, cultural, and human services activities of the Division and providing highly responsible professional and technical staff assistance. Duties may include, but are not limited to the following:

• Plan, organize, coordinate and direct the work of subordinates in developing and implementing a broad and diversified community recreation and human services program.
• Participate as a member of the community-based network of Human Services Agencies.
• Develop and implement changes in staffing, goals, objectives, policies and procedures to ensure maximum effectiveness and efficiency.
• Develop programs of service to meet community needs including plans for efficient and economical use of labor, buildings, equipment and materials.
• Attend meetings of and prepare reports for Commissions and Advisory Groups; provide technical and professional advice and recommendations relating to recreation and human services.
• Respond to and resolve difficult resident inquiries and complaints.
• Prepare and administer the division budget, maintaining appropriate budgetary controls.
• Administer federal, state and special project grants.

SENIOR TRANSPORTATION ENGINEER

One (1) Position Available

The Organization

The Public Works, Transportation Engineering Division plans and operates a multi-modal transportation system with safe and convenient choices for walking, bicycling, driving and using transit, through local actions, and in coordination with regional and state transportation agencies. Our work is guided by a City adopted Mobility Action Plan, Vision Zero Action Plan and in Coordination with the City's Mobility Commission. 

The City is currently developing its first Active Transportation Plan (ATP), which updates and consolidates its previous Bicycle Master Plan and Pedestrian Master Plan and provides guidance for its active transportation programs for the next five years.

The Position

The Senior Transportation Engineer plays a key role in implementing Fremont's General Plan vision to be "a national model of how an auto-oriented suburb can evolve into a sustainable, strategically urban, modern city." Specific City goals and current projects include implementing the "Vision Zero" traffic safety improvement program, transforming Fremont's transportation corridors into "complete streets" that are safe, comfortable, and convenient for all travel modes and users of "All Ages and Abilities", reducing the number of vehicle miles traveled, expanding available transit services, modernizing the City's traffic signal system, upgrading State Highway corridors, and supporting new innovations in transportation technology.

In 2019, the City completed a Mobility Action Plan and formed a Mobility Commission to assist with plan implementation. Minimum Qualifications

The successful candidate will typically possess the following:

• Education: Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering.
• Experience: Five years of professional Transportation engineering experience at the fully qualified working level.
• Licenses/Certificates/Special Requirements:
  • Possession of valid registration as a traffic engineer or civil engineer issued by the California State Board of Registration for Professional Engineers is required. Dual registration is highly desirable.
  • This classification requires the ability to travel independently within and outside the City limits. Positions in this classification require possession of a valid Class C California Driver's License by the time of appointment. Failure to possess or maintain the valid required license shall result in discipline up to and including termination of employment.

Qualifications:

Under general supervision, monitors and maintains the District’s central reservation system and main­tains schedules for outdoor facilities including fields, parks and picnic areas; and performs other related duties as assigned.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

• Maintains reservation system for the District comprising of outdoor and indoor spaces; manages mobile staging and equipment to include establishing reservation reschedules, posting schedules online, and providing direct oversight of outdoor space usage.
• Responds to online, telephone and in-person inquiries from the public and co-workers, receives web and paper reservation applications, reviews applications for proper use of space according to District guidelines, determines approval/rejection of applications, notifies applicants of decisions, and files documents for recordkeeping.
• Assists in authorizing permits for private and public entities, reviews permit holder’s evidence of insurance, submits and files insurance forms.
• Accepts payments from permit holders including deposits for space, processes payments for accounting purposes, obtains information on after-use condition of facilities, determines amount of refunds, providing justification as needed if part or all of refund is withheld, and processes deposit refunds as appropriate.
• Accurately processes monetary transactions including credit card transactions, issues receipts, reconciles cash and receipts, and prepares bank deposits.
• Researches, studies and interprets city and District rules and regulations related to use of public facilities, provides expert knowledge of space availability, codes and ordinances to the public on use of facilities.
• Assists with troubleshooting issues related to functionality of reservation software program, receives feedback on reservation system, and proposes modifications to program to enhance user experience.
• Distributes printed and posted material related to reservations in marketing efforts.

The Position

The City of South San Francisco seeks customer service-oriented individuals to join the Community Resource Team at the new Library | Parks and Recreation Center. This position is shared between the Library Department and Parks and Recreation Department and works under the direction of the Community Resource Analyst. The Community Resource Clerk will typically be stationed at the lobby desks on the first and second floors of the new Library | Parks and Recreation Center at 901 Civic Campus Way in South San Francisco, however, may temporarily be assigned to other sites, or to represent the departments at special events. This position will provide a welcoming presence by greeting members of the public and responding to visitor inquiries to assist with wayfinding in the facility and sharing information about activities in the building as well as city and other local community resources.

THE POSITION:

The City of San Rafael is recruiting for a Program Coordinator in the Recreation Division of our Library and Recreation Department.  This position is responsible for overseeing operations of the Terra Linda Community Pool, including hiring, training, scheduling of temp/seasonal lifeguards, swim instructors, cashiers for approximately 100 employees, for a 9-month pool season.  The Program Coordinator will develop, implement, and oversee programing for the pool and be responsible for developing the pool schedule.  An understanding of safety, customer service, managing relationships with user groups, problem solving, and leadership skills are important for this program area.  Although an aquatics background is preferred, it is not required at time of hire.  The Program Coordinator will also support the Terra Linda Community Center with program development, special events, rentals, customer service, marketing and other tasks as assigned. 

This position performs the following essential job duties (including but not limited to and may vary with assignment):

• Provides direction to and supervises regular, temporary and volunteer staff, including selecting, monitoring, training, scheduling and determining workloads; assists with hiring, disciplinary and evaluation processes.
• Assists in the development, recommendation and implementation of goals, objectives, policies, procedures and work standards for the assigned department division(s).
• Participates in the preparation and administration of an assigned recreation center or specialized recreation program budget.

• Monitors the day-to-day operations of programs and events, including making site visits, handling and resolving complaints not requiring the attention of a supervisor and ensuring that programs and events have required materials and supplies.
• Formulates and organizes program plans and schedules for seasonal and year-round activities and special events. 
• Acts as liaison and representative with a variety of advisory boards, commissions, community groups, law enforcement agencies, schools and councils.
• Creates program flyers, brochures, catalogs and newsletters, including determining content, layout, materials and distribution methods; prepares activity and operating reports.
• Enforces safety and operating procedures and provides for maintenance needs including compliance with health and safety codes and building codes.

OTHER REQUIREMENTS:

• Must possess and maintain a valid California Class C driver’s license with a satisfactory driving record.
• Must have American Red Cross Lifeguard Training (or obtain within 4 months of hire).
• Must have American Red Cross Lifeguard Instructor (or obtain within 1 year from time of hire).
• Must have American Red Cross Water Safety Instructor (or obtain within 1 year from time of hire).

• Equivalent to graduation from a four-year college or university with major coursework in recreation administration, physical education, leisure services or a related field AND
• Two (2) years of full-time or its equivalent of recreation experience, OR
• An equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job as listed above.

The General Maintenance Worker is essential to maintaining the cleanliness, safety, and overall appearance of our community spaces. This role involves a wide range of responsibilities, including:

SENIOR RECREATION LEADER

Summary Description

Under the direction of an assigned supervisor/coordinator, the Senior Recreation Leader is responsible for implementing programs at a given site, including administering program curriculum and supervising program staff.  This is an at-will, intermittent, part-time, hourly wage position without City-paid benefits.  Work a flexible work schedule, which may include evening, weekdays, weekends and holidays.

Representative Duties

This position works only during the sports activity season (September through November), approximately ten (10) - fifteen (15) hours per week (hours may vary depending on basketball scheduling).  Youth Basketball Referees are responsible for officiating youth sports programs.  Games are held on Saturday(s) and recruitment is for three (3) Youth Basketball Referees for the Youth Hoopsters Basketball Program.

SPORTS OFFICIAL (Youth/Adult)

DEFINITION

The Sports Official is responsible for officiating youth/adult sports programs, including meeting program objectives and participating in program activities.  This is an at-will, intermittent, part-time, position without City-paid benefits.  Sports Officials are typically paid on a per game basis.  Most games are in the evening and weekends.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES - Duties may include, but are not limited to the following:

Officiate activities of the youth/adults sports programs as assigned, including administering program schedules, participating in all program activities, monitoring and enforcing rules and regulations, monitoring games to maintain time schedules, maintaining a safe environment, and collecting any necessary paperwork.

Assist Recreation Site Manager in carrying out program objectives and collecting relevant data.

Instruct adults and youth in sport rules, model appropriate behavior, monitor strict adherence to and enforce sport and spectator rules.

Assist with maintaining on-site safety for participants, observers, volunteers and others involved in the program.

Exercise sound judgment in addressing behavior problems.

Responsible for appropriate use, maintenance, and storage of all program supplies and equipment.

Maintain appropriate customer service and sportsmanship at all times.

Establish and maintain a respectful and courteous working relationship with participants, volunteers, staff and those contacted in the course of work.

Exhibit enthusiasm and support for the program.

Perform other program-related duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Prior experience officiating relevant sporting events involving youth or adults, preferred.

Ability to:

Communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing and understand and carry out oral and written directions.

Learn pertinent City rules, policies, ordinances and program requirements.

Establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted during the course of work.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

First Aid/CPR Certification desirable.
