To perform a variety of semi-skilled and skilled work involving the trimming, removal, installation and general maintenance of trees.  The purpose of this recruitment is to fill a current vacancy in the Community Services Department, as well as establish an eligibility list for future vacancies.

IDEAL CANDIDATE

The Ideal Candidate will possess an in-depth knowledge of practices and procedures identified by the International Society of Arboriculture (ISA) as they relate to a municipal setting. The Ideal Candidate will also possess good communication, customer service and writing skills, as well as demonstrate competence working with computers and related software, e.g., maintenance management and MS Outlook. Additionally, they will have a strong work ethic, ability to climb trees, work out of an aerial truck, be available to work overtime and perform standby duty as needed. The Ideal Candidate should have knowledge in operating chain and hand saws, operating a chipper, a background in landscaping with planting trees, and experience with setting-up and tearing-down of traffic control. The Ideal Candidate also has the knowledge of safety & best management practices used in operating and maintaining tree pruning equipment and trucks.

Tree Trimmer I:

This is the entry level class in the Tree Trimmer series.  Positions in this class will usually perform most of the duties required of Tree Trimmers I and II; however, as compared to the Tree Trimmer II, is not expected to function at the same skill level and will usually exercise less independent discretion and judgment on matters related to work procedures and methods.

Tree Trimmer II:

This is the journey level class in the Tree Trimmer series.  This class differs from Tree Trimmer I in that incumbent performs more complex duties.  This incumbent Tree Trimmer II may also be expected to assist in the oversight and training of less experienced personnel.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

Prune trees and shrubbery to provide clearance of streets, sidewalks, signs, and lights, and as necessary to ensure continued health of the plant.  Remove fallen trees, dead limbs, and other debris resulting from storm damage and general conditions.  Participate in the large-scale application of herbicides and pesticides.  Clean and maintain trimming equipment.  Work both independently and as a crew member in removing trees and stumps.  Plant, stake, spray and inject trees.  Operate a chipper, aerial truck, mist sprayer and miscellaneous equipment which could include routers, loaders, forklifts, and dump trucks.  Use a variety of hand tools including hand saws, pole saws, chain saws, and pole loppers.  Regular and consistent attendance.

OTHER JOB FUNCTIONS

May perform street drainage maintenance or other public works maintenance work when not assigned to tree trimming duties.  Respond to emergency situations after regular working hours.   Perform related duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

Tree Trimmer I

Education:  High School diploma or equivalent.

Experience:  Six (6) months of work experience involving tree maintenance or landscaping work including some tree trimming.

License and Certificate:  Required upon hire, possession of a valid California driver's license.  Must obtain a valid Class B California driver’s license, Work Zone Safety I certificate from the International Municipal Signal Association (or Department approved equivalent), First Aid and CPR certification prior to permanent appointment.

Tree Trimmer II

Education:  High School diploma or equivalent.

Experience:  Eighteen (18) months of work experience involving tree maintenance work including pruning, trimming and caring for trees.

License and Certificate:  Required upon hire, possession of a valid Class B California Driver's License.  Possession of a Work Zone Safety I certificate from the International Municipal Signal Association (or Department approved equivalent), First Aid and CPR certification prior to permanent appointment.  Possession of a Certified Commercial Applicator license from the State of California and Certification as an Arborist by the International Society of Arboriculture is highly desirable.

POSITION

To perform professional accounting and finance work and to assist in the City's budgeting function as assigned.  The Accountant I is an entry-level position and will perform the most basic and routine tasks to assist the department.  The Accountant II is a journey level position and will perform responsible and complex technical assignments in support of the department. The purpose of this recruitment is to fill a current vacancy in the Administrative Services Department, as well as establish an eligibility list for potential vacancies.

Assist in planning and developing accounting procedures for bookkeeping and processing of claims, expenditures, purchases, budget data, payroll receipts, debt financings, and subventions. Check appropriation balances, recommend transfer of funds to other appropriation funds as necessary. Prepare and manage contracts, as deemed necessary, and monitor and review to determine that expenditures are made in accordance with terms of the contract. Assist with the evaluation of financing options and alternatives, as well as, the analyses, preparation, execution and recording of debt instruments. Prepare external reports to the State Controller and other Agencies as required. Prepare monthly and annual closing and adjusting entries to the City's general ledger. Prepare a variety of comprehensive and complex financial and expenditure reports and financial statements periodically and as assigned. Assist in development and implementation of internal control functions and appropriate procedures to ensure all City assets are properly monitored and maintained. Regular and consistent attendance.

OTHER JOB FUNCTIONS

Make occasional presentations to City Council and other agencies/groups. Participate in the development of guidelines, goals, objectives, and policies for assigned work unit. Respond to difficult citizen complaints and requests for information. Coordinate accounting activities with City department/divisions and with outside agencies. Perform related duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

Accountant I and II

Education: Bachelor’s degree from an accredited four (4) year college or university with a degree in accounting or a closely related course of study.

License or Certificate

Possession of a valid California Driver’s License. CPA is desirable.

Accountant I

Experience:  One (1) year of professional accounting experience.  Governmental financial management and auditing experience in desirable.

Accountant II

Experience: Three (3) years of professional accounting experience, including one (1) year of governmental financial management.  Auditing experience is highly desirable.

The City of Foster City is recruiting for a part-time Parks Maintenance Worker in the Parks Department. The is a part-time non-benefited position working approximately 20 hours per week, and no benefits are provided. 

Important and Essential Responsibilities 
Performs mowing, weeding, trimming, pruning, cultivating, fertilizing, pest control, planting and cleaning of lawns, trees, plants, and parks; removes and disposes of trash and litter; maintains park and maintenance equipment, buildings and facilities; maintains irrigation systems; performs construction and demolition of park facilities, drainage, low-voltage electrical and irrigation systems for new, expanded and renovated park facilities as part of capital improvement projects; performs minor plumbing or building repair duties; supervises and coordinates Sheriff’s Work Program personnel; operates small trucks, dump trucks, ride-on and walk-behind mowing equipment.

Education and Training Guidelines:

Selection Process

The City of Menlo Park is recruiting for an Assistant/Associate/Senior transportation planner (2 positions) to help our organization better serve the community and improve the City’s infrastructure. This position will provide an excellent opportunity to gain technical and project management skills and experience. As part of a small city, staff have the opportunity to work closely with the transportation team and community on a variety projects and subject areas.

The transportation division leads multi-modal and safety-focused infrastructure projects; engages with regional transportation partners including Caltrain, Samtrans, Caltrans, and other transit providers; maintains the City’s traffic signals, street lights, traffic signs and street markings; and administers local-serving shuttle and safe routes to school programs. The ideal candidate will have experience supporting or leading transportation studies and plans that may include complete streets plans, bicycle and pedestrian facility development, safety planning, railroad grade separation planning, or others. Assistant Transportation Planner

This is the entry-level classification in the professional transportation planning series. Initially, incumbents learn and perform a variety of techniques related to the development of short and long range transportation plans and conduct oversight of transportation demand management (both internal and external stakeholders), citywide shuttle, and safe routes to school programs. Positions at this level usually perform most of the duties required of the positions at the Associate level, but are not expected to function at the same skill level and usually exercise less independent discretion and judgment in matters related to work procedures and methods. Work is usually supervised while in progress and fits an established structure or pattern. Exceptions or changes in procedures are explained in detail as they arise. As experience is gained, assignments become more varied and are performed with greater independence.

Associate Transportation Planner

This is the journey-level classification of the transportation planning series, able to perform the full scope of professional transportation planning duties. Positions at this level are distinguished from the Assistant Transportation Planner level by the performance of the full range of duties as assigned, working independently, and exercising judgment, initiative, and problem solving. Positions at this level receive only occasional instruction or assistance as new or unusual situations arise and are fully aware of the operating procedures and policies of the work unit. This class is distinguished from the Senior Transportation Planner in that the latter is the advanced journey-level class in the series and is responsible for performing more complex planning and project management activities.

Senior Transportation Planner

This is the advanced journey-level classification in the Transportation Planner series responsible for complex transportation planning and project management duties. Incumbents work on tasks that are varied and complex, requiring considerable discretion and independent judgement. Positions at this level conduct the full range of duties as assigned, work independently, and exercise judgment, initiative, and problem solving. The work involves problem solving of unique issues or increasingly complex problems without precedent or simple solutions. Assignments are given with general guidelines and incumbents are responsible for establishing objectives, timelines, and methods to deliver work products. Work is typically reviewed upon completion for soundness, appropriateness, and conformity to policy and requirements. This class is distinguished from the Associate Transportation Planner in that the latter is the journey-level class in the series, performing less complex tasks and project management activities.

The City of Sunnyvale is seeking a highly responsible and engaging Laboratory Manager to join our management team in the Environmental Services Department!  The Environmental Services Department provides comprehensive and innovative utility services for Sunnyvale's residents and businesses, and also facilitates initiatives to achieve the City's sustainability objectives. The City’s Environmental Laboratory provides water quality analysis to support Drinking Water and Wastewater Management.  The Lab team includes 10 positions and conducts approximately 48,000 analyses annually.

Minimum Qualifications

The minimum qualifications for education and experience can be met in the following ways: 

A Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in chemistry, biochemistry, biology, microbiology, chemical engineering or a closely related field, and four or more years of experience in the analysis of water, wastewater, solid waste, hazardous waste or other environmental samples in an analytical laboratory or in an industrial pretreatment facility associated with a wastewater or water treatment facility, of which at least two years are at a supervisory level.

A Master's degree in a related field may be substituted for one year of the required experience.

The City of Sunnyvale is looking for an Applications Analyst II to join the Information Technology Department (ITD) who is service-oriented and has a passion for meaningful work with enterprise applications (e.g. ERP, EDMS, GIS). The team focuses on strong customer service business-to-technical skills and experience in configuring and maintaining applications for department use and using problem-solving skills to provide the best solutions.
