Under general supervision, receives assignment to specific functional areas; performs duties and assignments that may overlap depending on the operational needs of the department and staffing levels; performs skilled maintenance, repair and construction work in the completion of assigned activities and operations of assigned division including streets, traffic signals, street lights, recreation facilities, landscaped areas, collection systems, and other public facility maintenance; operates maintenance and construction tools and equipment; performs a variety of maintenance tasks relative to assigned area of responsibility.

Summary
Under general supervision, assists in organizing, leading and conducting recreational programs and provides highly responsible and technical professional staff assistance in developing and conducting specialized recreational programs; and performs other duties as assigned.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Plans, schedules, assigns, supervises and participates in a recreation unit of the District typically consisting of part-time employees; organizes and conducts programs in program areas such as fine and performing arts, sports, outdoor activities, therapeutics and inclusion; interprets and communicates District policies to staff and ensures compliance with applicable federal, state and District safety regulations; interviews and participates in selecting new staff; establishes performance requirements; regularly monitors, evaluates and addresses performance.
• Contributes to the development of and monitors performance against the program budget; approves purchases and other expenditures in accordance with District policies and procedures.
• Identi­fies, contacts, selects and prepares documents for contract instructors; provides first-level approval and processes contract invoices.
• Prepares written public correspondence, speaks to school and community groups and promotes participation in scheduled activities through marketing plans and outreach efforts.
• Instructs participants in various athletic and recreational activities.
• Coordinates and participates in equipment and vendor selection, physical setup for special activities and the issuing and collecting of materials.
• Assists supervisor with the research, development, enhancement and implementation of new and existing services and programming; assists in monitoring program effective­ness.
• Prepares and maintains a variety of records and reports on participation, equipment and facility use.

Other Duties and Responsibilities

• May be required to drive a District or personal vehicle.
• May coordinate activities and meetings of the Community Advisory Council.
• Exempt employees may be required to work nights and weekends.  
• Participates during disasters or when emergency response is needed.
• Performs other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfac­torily. Any combination of experience and training that would likely provide the required knowledge, skill and/or ability listed below is qualifying.

Education/Experience: A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be: a bachelor’s degree with emphasis in recreation or a closely related field; and two years of group recreational activity leadership experience including supervisory, public relations or marketing skills; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

As assigned to Therapeutic Recreation Unit, preferred degree in Therapeutic Recreation and/or two years of experience working with individuals with developmental disabili­ties, prefer­ably with ABA (Applied Behavior Analysis); and the ability to learn/imple­ment applicable laws and inclusion methods and practices. Knowledge of principles and techniques pertaining to the specialized program activities and program marketing and evaluation methods; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Language Ability: Ability to read, analyze and interpret documents in area of expertise, technical proce­dures, or government regulations. Ability to write reports, correspondence and proce­dure manuals. Ability to communicate effectively in written and oral form. Ability to present information and respond to questions. Ability to speak Spanish is desirable.

Math Ability: Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as percentages and costs. Ability to determine cost of contractors and provide budget input.

Reasoning Ability: Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in standardized situations. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions provided in written or oral form. Ability to exercise a high degree of independent judgment.

Certificates and Licenses: 

• First Aid & CPR/AED within 90 days of employment with ability to maintain certifications thereafter as a condition of employment.
• Valid California driver’s license with a good driving record and current automobile insurance.
• Therapeutics program requires a California Commercial Class C Driver License within six months of employment.
• Aquatics program requires a Certified Pool Operator’s certification or Aquatic Facility Operator’s certification within six months of employment as well as Life­guard training, American Red Cross Lifeguard Instructor Trainer and American Red Cross Water Safety instructor certificates.
• All full-time candidates require satisfactory completion of a pre-employment functional capacity examination.
• Department of Justice fingerprint clearance.
• Proof of negative TB skin test.

Supervisory Responsibilities: Typically supervises part-time employees in the recreation department, including performance evaluations. The number of part-time employees supervised varies depending on unit assignment.

Sausalito Parks and Recreation is Seeking Vibrant Skilled Recreation Leaders

This recruitment is for Summer and Fall Events and Activities such as Bocce and Volleyball Referee, Chili Cook-off, Toast to Sausalito, and other fun classes, activities, and events

Pay: $16.00 - $17.00/ Hr

The City of Sausalito is recruiting for part-time temporary help for the summer and fall seasonal recreation activities and City-wide events.  The first of these is the Bocce League referee.

Bocce Referee
As a Sausalito Parks and Recreation Bocce Referee, you are responsible for set-up, management, and cleanup of scheduled Bocce matches. You are the enforcer of rules, an impartial judge, and an advocate for fun and fair play. The ideal candidate will maintain a positive attitude and provide a friendly environment when communicating with teams and keeping score. This position reports directly to the Recreation Supervisor.   The ideal candidate must meet all minimum requirements as listed below and be confident and capable of dealing with conflict and intense games.  

Event Staff

As a Sausalito Parks and Recreation Event Staff member, you are responsible for actively participating in set-up, cleanup, and management of your assigned event.  You must arrive on time and remain until the event leader release you after the event.   Event staff may set up chairs, tables, stages, corridors, and barriers.  You may be asked to perform traffic control or direct drivers to parking.   The ideal candidate will have a can-do attitude, smile often, meet all of the minimum requirements below, remain calm under pressure and in the face of adversity, be cheerful, and love the diversity of people. 

The minimum requirements for the position are:

• Reliable transportation to and from games or events
• Ability and commitment to arrive on time and remain until duties are completed and you are released

The Redwood City Fire Department is seeking individuals for the position of Cadet Firefighter. The Cadet Firefighter Program is designed to allow students an opportunity to gain firsthand knowledge of fire department operations. Fire Department Cadets spend a minimum of 48 hours and a maximum of 96 hours per month at the firehouse, participating in calls for service, station duties, and training. Cadets will also be expected to attend department-sponsored community functions outside of their 96-hour monthly commitment. Though the goal is to immerse the cadet into all aspects of fire department life, they are not allowed to participate in situations deemed Immediately Dangerous to Life and Health (IDLH).

THE POSITION

Work Environment/Working Conditions:

Under the supervision of the Volunteer Program Manager in the Visitor Services Department, this position will primarily report out of a designated Midpen field office (Cupertino and/or La Honda), which will include volunteer projects and administrative tasks. This position also works from home approximately one day per week (as approved) and occasionally at the Administration office in Los Altos.  Volunteer initiatives directed by this role may take place across various preserves requiring regular travel to and from the locations.  The Volunteer Program Lead’s schedule requires working at least one weekend day as part of the regular work week schedule, with an option to be on a 9/80 schedule after an initial training period plus occasional evenings and holidays.

 

The Volunteer Program Lead is a fairly independent position that supports the work of one or more departments within the agency, requiring solo work in the field, frequent site visits, and hiking steep terrain in wildland areas with poison oak and wildlife. Field work will also require driving a District truck in remote areas on unimproved dirt roads in inclement weather conditions. Work in the field may also include exposure to loud noise levels, road hazards, vibration, confining workspace, chemicals, mechanical and/or electrical hazards, hazardous physical substances and fumes.

 

Ideal candidates will be comfortable working in these types of field conditions, as well as in an office environment including some full days of program administrative tasks using various software programs and applications on a computer, phone, or tablet.

Additionally, candidates should be familiar with the principles and practices of trail building, construction, repair, and maintenance, including site planning and resource protection as well as the tools and equipment required for maintaining and repairing open spaces and related facilities.

 

This position wears a prescribed District uniform and adheres to strict safety procedures and work habits. Depending on the exposure, employees may be required to wear head, hearing, eye, foot, face, hand, or other protection equipment.

Additionally, one (1) year of experience in one of the following areas (which can overlap with the above experience):

• One (1) year of experience in evaluating, surveying, or monitoring of natural resource systems, OR
• One (1) year of experience in trail construction, maintenance, and/or repair of parks, open spaces, and/or related facilities.  
• Bilingual skills are highly desirable.

Licenses & Certifications Required:  

• Possession of a valid California Driver’s License.
• Possession of, or ability to obtain, Basic First Aid and Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certification within six (6) months of employment.

Foster City is looking for a fast learner with some planning or building experience to fill the position of Building Permit Technician. This is an entry-level position that can serve as the first step in establishing a career in Planning or Building services. Foster City offers a unique experience to utilize customer service and people skills while deepening your technical knowledge in the building permit process. 

Education and Experience
Any combination equivalent to experience and education that could likely provide the required knowledge, skills and abilities. A typical way would be:

Education: High school diploma or equivalent is required. An associate degree or completion of technical courses in building codes or inspection principles or techniques is desirable. ICBO Permit Technician Certification is highly desirable.

Experience: Two (2) years experience working in a building or planning department, with six (6) months to one (1) year of experience in computerized building permit applications processing. 

Licenses and Certifications

• Possession of, or the ability to obtain, a valid Class C California driver’s license upon appointment.
• ICBO Permit Technician Certification is required within the first full year of employment with the City in this position

Selection Process
Applications will be reviewed for relevant education, experience, training and other job related qualifications. Based upon a review of employment applications received, a limited number of the qualified applicants will be invited to participate in the examination process. 

The process will consist of an Oral Panel Interview. An eligibility list will be established from those who pass the examination process with a score of 70% or higher. Current and future vacancies may be filled from this list. The list will remain in effect for at least one year unless exhausted sooner. 

The department will invite the most qualified candidates from the eligibility list to a final department interview. The Community Development Department will make the hiring decision.

The City of San José is recruiting for a Business Automation and Development Services Supervising Applications Analyst (SAA) in the Business Automation and Development Services Division of the Information Technology Department. The position requires a highly motivated and self-driven individual to lead a team responsible for the City's Permitting and Compliance System (Granicus GovService Amanda platform), Public Web Portal, Records Management System, Electronic Plan Review System (ProjectDox from Avolve), Business Intelligence System, Queue Management System, and Digital Inspection System. The position will oversee new technology implementations, enhancements, integrations, reports, and application upgrades for all Development Services systems. This position requires strong technical hands-on experience and leadership skills, as well as the ability to take initiative and direct others in an ever-changing business and technical environment.

The ideal candidate will have solid information management experience, strong interpersonal and communication skills, strong management skills, strong collaboration skills, a commitment to customer service, and the ability to simultaneously manage multiple projects and issues. A team leader, team player, and positive attitude are essential to this position.

Duties may include but are not limited to:

• Understanding of Planning, Building, and Code Enforcement (PBCE) business processes inside a large municipality.
• Planning, organizing, scheduling, and coordinating work related to Development Services applications and systems, ensuring efficient utilization of resources.
• Providing advanced technical leadership to integrate complex existing or new information system technologies.
• Maintaining Development Services Technologies and technical documentation to high standards to support planning, building, code enforcement, fire prevention, and related services.

• Researching complex commercial products and technology solutions and participating in the development of project scoping documents, performing vendor management and contract management duties, and preparing and evaluating Requests for Proposal (RFPs).
• Overseeing the creation and deployment of Power BI reports, Yellowfin reports, and Crystal Reports.
• Participating in all aspects of the software development cycle: Requirement Development, Planning, Design, Code, Test, Implementation, and Integration.

Please note that the Business Automation and Development Services Supervising Applications Analyst (SAA) position is currently eligible for a hybrid telework schedule. The schedule for working remotely and onsite is subject to change.

Salary Information:The final candidate's qualifications and experience shall determine the actual salary. In addition to the starting salary, employees in the Supervising Applications Analyst (SAA) classification shall also receive an approximate five percent (5%) ongoing non-pensionable compensation pay.

• Salary Range (including the 5% NPWI): $146,874.00 - $178,825.92

The Supervising Applications Analyst (SAA) classification is represented by the City Association of Management Personnel (CAMP) . Education: A Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university in a relevant field.

Experience: five (5) years of increasingly responsible professional/ level experience. in computer applications, systems, networks, or telecommunications work, of which at least two (2) years include the responsibility for the development, implementation, and maintenance of major communications or computer systems.

Acceptable Substitution

• Additional years of increasingly responsible directly related work experience may be substituted for education on a year-for-year basis.
• Completion of a Master's Degree in a relevant field from an accredited college or university may be substituted for one year of the required two (2) years of experience include the responsibility for the development, implementation, and maintenance of major communications or computer systems.

Part-Time variable hours; evenings and weekends

Summary:
Under general supervision, performs a variety of custodial tasks and provides oversight of rental groups, in accordance with District policies and procedures.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

• Assist patrons and prospective participants on the phone and in-person
• Assist permit groups with set-up and breakdown of tables, chairs, and other equipment
• Promptly open and unlock facilities or close and secure facilities as scheduled
• Complete facility condition forms following permit group use and incident reports as needed
• Notify management concerning need for major repairs or additions
• Turn athletic field lights off and on for sports groups
• Sell and scan admission tickets special events and/or theater performances

Other Duties and Responsibilities:

• Sweep floors, vacuum carpets, and dust or polish furniture, fixtures, and equipment
• Wash windows, clean restrooms, replenish supplies, and sanitize high touch areas often
• Empty waste receptacles and remove any trash or debris found throughout facility
• May assist with conducting recreation classes
• Perform other related duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications:

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty* satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skills, and/or ability required:

Education and Experience:
Minimum age of 18 years old with a High School Diploma (or GED). At least 250 hours of experience in customer service or a related field preferred.

Certificates and Licenses:

• Proof of negative Tuberculosis (TB) skin test prior to first day of employment
• CA Driver’s License and Proof of Insurance
• Adult and Pediatric First Aid & CPR/AED within 90 days of hire

Additional Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Ability to communicate effectively in English in both written and oral form. Ability to write routine correspondence using correct spelling and grammar. Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in whole numbers, fractions, and decimals. Ability to apply common sense and exercise good judgement in solving problems. Ability to establish effective relationships with fellow employees, volunteers, and participants and/or parents/guardians.

Certificates and Licenses:

• First Aid & CPR/AED within 90 days of employment with ability to maintain certifications thereafter as a condition of employment.
• Valid California driver’s license with a good driving record and current automobile insurance. For Therapeutics unit^: ability to obtain a commercial driver license within one year of employment (for a 15-passenger van).
• Department of Justice fingerprint clearance.
• Proof of a negative TB skin test.

Supervisory Responsibilities:
The employee may provide guidance or direction to other part-time employees and to volunteers.
