Woodside Fire Protection District offers an exceptional Cadet Program for individuals interested in a career in the Fire Service. Cadets gain hands-on experience participating in training and public service events. Cadets work 24-hour shifts and ride-along on emergency calls.

Woodside Cadets will work and be involved in:

Emergency calls, firefighter training, public education events, fire prevention, station duties, CERPP, CPR/first aid training. They must also meet monthly hour requirements and attend monthly training drills.

The Cadet term begins in July 1st 2024 through June 30th 2025.

Cadets must have a valid EMT certification, proof of medical insurance and a valid California driver license in order to apply.

We are seeking an innovative and proactive Building Official with a positive, forward-thinking perspective. The Building Official will manage all building division functions (building permit issuance, plan check, and building inspections). The position reports to the Community Development Director. The Building Official will assist in integrating the City’s vision, goals, and people strategy with the business strategy of the Community Development Department; managing, planning, and organizing Community Development services, programs, and operations; developing and implementing policy; crafting and accomplishing department and City objectives, goals, and performance metrics within guidelines established by the City Council and City Manager. The City of Berkeley is seeking a Housing Development Specialist (Community Development Project Coordinator)! In this role you will have the opportunity to be part of the team responsible for implementing the City’s Housing Trust Fund and Small Sites Programs. This position will work on renovations and new construction projects, the latter of which will include developments at the North Berkeley and Ashby BART sites. You'll work closely with nonprofit developers to underwrite project proposals, recommend funding, negotiate loan and regulatory agreements, and monitor project progress. You will also provide technical assistance and capacity building support to smaller, emerging developers.

As a contributing member of Housing and Community Services Division (HCS) and the Health, Housing and Community Services Department (HHCS), this position is part of a team that is dedicated to enhancing community life and supporting housing, health, and wellness for all. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
A typical way of gaining the knowledge, skills, and abilities for this position is:
Equivalent to graduation from a four-year college with major coursework in business, planning, or public administration or a closely related field and four (4) years of professional project management experience in community development, such as housing, economic development, public works, or planning. Lead and/or supervisory experience is desirable.

A master's degree in a related program is desirable and can be substituted for one (1) year of the required experience.

Must be able to attend evening meetings. A valid California driver's license is desirable.

DESCRIPTION:

The Department:

The Parks and Recreation Department provides planning, development, operation, maintenance, and rehabilitation of the City's neighborhood parks, open space, water sites, recreation buildings, and trails.

The Position:

Under supervision, to perform a variety of unskilled and semi-skilled tasks in connection with the development and maintenance of City parks and recreational facilities.

As an As-needed Laborer, the successful incumbent will work in the department, performing routine maintenance on various parks and facilities including the city-owned cemetery. This position will assist in maintenance and repair using a variety of tools and specialized equipment. 

The Laborer position performs varied, unskilled and skilled manual tasks related to landscape maintenance and sanitization. Typical tasks include cleaning and sanitizing restrooms and buildings, loading trash and leaves in truck, litter abatement, mowing, edging, cleaning park sites, graffiti abatement, and operating a variety of hand/power tools and heavy equipment as needed. This position may require working weekends, holidays, and after hours. Must be able to read, speak, and write English at a basic level, follow written and oral instruction, and perform heavy lifting.  

As an as-needed employee, this is an "at-will" position and there is no guarantee of hours. Hours are limited to 999 in a fiscal year or 960 hours in a fiscal year for retired CalPERS annuitants.

Performs construction, maintenance and sanitation duties as required; and does related work as required.

The Construction Services Manager will directly perform a variety of new construction, skilled building and grounds repair and restoration work, supervises construction crews of staff, and manages the work of licensed contractors. The Construction Services Manager is responsible for the management and completion of repair and improvement projects at a variety of park facilities and locations.

This is skills-based physical labor work, in all weather conditions, for a person at an intermediate level. The work performed will support MRCA’s operation of nature parks within greater Los Angeles and other MRCA efforts related to public access, open space conservation, habitat restoration, and urban park development.

The position reports to the Division Chief. Assorted tasks may be supervised by the Deputy Executive Officer. The position supervises 6-12 other staff.  

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

The following duties are typical for this classification. Incumbents may not perform all of the listed duties and/or may be required to perform additional or different duties from those set forth below to address business needs and changing business practices.

• Schedule and prioritize construction projects.

• Inspect and evaluate projects in the field, troubleshoot problems as needed. 

• Follow verbal and written directions.

• Assist in the design and estimating of construction projects.

• Implement safety protocols for construction tools and equipment.

• Identify and scope improvement and repair projects for park facilities.

• Maintain construction project status reports and updates to Division Chief.

JOB SPECIFICATIONS

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of the job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to lift and carry items weighing up to 60 pounds for a distance up to 50 feet both indoors and outdoors;  frequently operate heavy equipment, hand tools, light equipment and power tools; constantly work in outdoor weather conditions; frequently move about work sites; communicate and exchange information; observe and document site conditions; transport equipment and tools between vehicles and work sites on a daily basis; and occasionally ascend/descend a ladder to access areas of work.

Monday through Friday, 8 hours per day, 40 hours per week.  Some evening and weekend overtime with prior approval by supervisor is expected. The position will work out of the Los Angeles River Center and Gardens and will be required to travel to various other locations. Offices at the River Center are spread among multiple buildings and floors.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
