The San Mateo Public Library is seeking a part-time (20 hours per week) Library Assistant I/II  in the Children Services Division at the Main Library The Library Assistant I/II works closely with the Supervising Librarian and the four merit Children’s Librarians to prepare and implement Children’s programs and services. The Library Assistant helps children and adults with reference inquiries, prepares materials and conducts outreach and class visits, helps with storytimes, maintains displays, performs clerical tasks including typing, organizing books and other materials, and maintains statistical information and division-specific documents.

What You'll Do

The Library Assistant I/II performs a wide variety of library support work and technical library tasks related to such activities as acquisition, cataloging, classification, circulation, and assisting patrons; and performs related work as required.  The current vacancy may be filled at either level based on experience.  Depending upon class level and assignment, duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:

• Prepare print and non-print materials for introduction into the library materials collection, including use of an automated system to retrieve cataloging data and produce catalog cards; preparing and affixing identification labels and pockets to materials; pull discarded materials from catalog card files.
• Assign routine tasks and provide technical instruction to part time and other subordinate positions in area of responsibility.
• Assist in the acquisition, processing and maintenance of the periodical, microform, audio visual, business, historical, or other special collection for the library.
• Assist adults and children in locating materials in the library and in placing requests for materials not available.  Refer more difficult or technical questions to appropriate library staff.
• Handle patron complaints for overdue and lost materials; refer delinquent accounts to an agency for collection.
• Maintain statistics of library use; use computer produced and manual data to prepare reports on circulation processing, inquiries received and other activities.
• Assist in ordering and receiving books, records, cassettes, periodicals, and other library materials and preparing associated paperwork for payment.
• Perform routine clerical assignments, including typing, maintaining files, and routing mail.
• Use a microcomputer or the City's mainframe system for word processing, data file management, and statistical record keeping.
• Process incoming and outgoing interlibrary loan requests; receive and send requests via computer as well as by mail; verify requests for accuracy.
• Provide story hours to children and participate in other programs for children and young adults.
• Prepare and maintain displays and exhibits; develop artwork for publicity materials.
• Recruit and keep records of the work of volunteers in the library; screen potential volunteers and direct to appropriate library division for assignment.
• Assist and advise outreach volunteers and serve as library liaison to Peninsula Library System Outreach Service in the City of San Mateo.
• Check out library materials to patrons; check in and prepare materials for return to the circulating collection; register new patrons; collect overdue fines.
• Respond to patron in person and telephone requests for library materials, services, and information.

The Library Assistant I/II receives direction from higher level personnel.  The Library Assistant II may provide technical supervision over lower-level library positions.

This position works only during the sports activity season (September through November), approximately ten (10) - fifteen (15) hours per week (hours may vary depending on basketball scheduling).  Youth Basketball Referees are responsible for officiating youth sports programs.  Games are held on Saturday(s) and recruitment is for three (3) Youth Basketball Referees for the Youth Hoopsters Basketball Program.

SPORTS OFFICIAL (Youth/Adult)

DEFINITION

The Sports Official is responsible for officiating youth/adult sports programs, including meeting program objectives and participating in program activities.  This is an at-will, intermittent, part-time, position without City-paid benefits.  Sports Officials are typically paid on a per game basis.  Most games are in the evening and weekends.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES - Duties may include, but are not limited to the following:

Officiate activities of the youth/adults sports programs as assigned, including administering program schedules, participating in all program activities, monitoring and enforcing rules and regulations, monitoring games to maintain time schedules, maintaining a safe environment, and collecting any necessary paperwork.

Assist Recreation Site Manager in carrying out program objectives and collecting relevant data.

Instruct adults and youth in sport rules, model appropriate behavior, monitor strict adherence to and enforce sport and spectator rules.

Assist with maintaining on-site safety for participants, observers, volunteers and others involved in the program.

Exercise sound judgment in addressing behavior problems.

Responsible for appropriate use, maintenance, and storage of all program supplies and equipment.

Maintain appropriate customer service and sportsmanship at all times.

Establish and maintain a respectful and courteous working relationship with participants, volunteers, staff and those contacted in the course of work.

Exhibit enthusiasm and support for the program.

Perform other program-related duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Prior experience officiating relevant sporting events involving youth or adults, preferred.

Ability to:

Communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing and understand and carry out oral and written directions.

DESCRIPTION:

The Department:

The Santa Clara City Library is a department of the City of Santa Clara. The Santa Clara City Library operates three facilities, a virtual branch through a website, and a bookmobile. The Library provides a collection of virtual and physical books and resources, services and programs, public internet access, adult literacy and English as Second Language classes for the Santa Clara community. Services and programs are free and open to all.

The Position:

The Library Technology Consultant provides assistance with and instruction to the public on the use of library computers, electronic resources, printing, and audio-visual equipment. The Library Technology Consultant performs complicated tasks involving computer and audio-visual equipment, sensitive patron information, and handling money.

As an as-needed employee, this is an "at-will" position and there is no guarantee of hours. Hours are limited to 999 in a fiscal year or 960 hours in a fiscal year for retired CalPERS annuitants.

• Monitors the public’s use of computer equipment in the Technology Center, meeting rooms and throughout the library. 
• Provides individual and group technology instruction, including preparing and running technology classes at various City locations.
• Assists the public with the use of library computers, software and electronic resources; resolves problems and answers basic questions regarding computer, laptop & mobile device usage.
• Performs basic troubleshooting on Library self-checkout machines, scanners, and genealogy equipment.
• Monitors the use of technology equipment to deter theft and/or vandalism.
• Cleans and inspects computer equipment, replaces printer cartridges and printer paper.
• Maintains an inventory of computer supplies and peripheral devices; checks out peripheral devices to patrons; submits requests for replacements when needed.
• Oversees the Internet queuing system and monitors patrons’ time usage.
• Troubleshoots printer problems and Internet access problems involving patron cards.
• Assists patrons with payment for print jobs, photocopies & faxes, handles cash and credit cards.
• Accesses patron library accounts on library software.
• Configures and operates audio-visual equipment in conference rooms for meetings and/or public functions.  
• Configures and operates basic types of computer hardware and peripherals.
• Assists library users in connecting to the internet with mobile devices, WiFi hotspots, and laptop/Chromebook computers.

• This position will be required to work on Sundays. Sunday hours will start January 2025, with 40 hours of training in November/December required for working on Sundays.

PART-TIME ARCHIVIST (LIBRARIAN I/LIBRARY ASSISTANT I)

The Mill Valley Public Library is looking for a part-time archivist for the Lucretia Little History Room. This individual should be passionate about preserving local history, particularly oral histories.

ESTIMATED NUMBER OF HOURS:

12 - 15 hours per week, depending on availability and experience.

Salary: $21.81 - $39.84 per hour, depending on experience and education.

ABOUT THE POSITION:

Reporting to the Supervising Archivist, the Part-Time Archivist in the Lucretia Little History Room will oversee the processing of new oral history recordings and work through the backlog. The ideal candidate will be able to multitask, work independently and collaboratively, with excellent communication and organization skills, and an eye for detail.

TYPICAL DUTIES:

• Accession, arrange, describe, and preserve oral history interviews.
• Process and digitize incoming donations, as well as the backlog.
• Assist in archival workflow development and implementation.
• Contribute to and lead outreach projects showcasing the History Room’s collections.
• Assist with ad hoc projects as needed.

Location:  Goebel Adult Center

Part-Time position: up to 35 hours per week; generally Mon-Fri 8:00am - 3:00pm

Summary
Under general supervision, oversees meal service operations including food preparation, menu planning, and inventory and ordering service products and produce; monitors kitchen staff; and performs other duties as assigned.

• Inspects food and rotates items for use to maximize freshness, discards out-of-date items, and monitors food stocks and supplies to meet patrons’ dietary needs.
• Ensures accurate supply deliveries, proper storage of produce to extend shelf life, and appropriate breakdown of orders for inventory and budget tracking; assigns orders to correct accounts.
• Researches nutritional needs of base customers, attends meetings with vendors, educators and dietitians to expand knowledge of recipe modifications, plate presentation and nutritious food preparation.
• Maintains accurate digital records pertaining to food preparation standards and kitchen proce­dures; maintains clean and sanitary service areas, facilities and equipment in accordance with state health department rules and regulations.
• Provides training and instruction for kitchen staff, including volunteers, on meal preparation procedures and standards, and proper operations of a commercial kitchen according to District guidelines to ensure compliance with all safety and health regulations.
• Accurately collects payments from customers; timely earmarks and directs invoices from vendors for proper accounting of charges.
• Develops and maintains positive relationships with partner agencies and food and supply vendors; interacts positively with customers and volunteers.
• Maintains professional knowledge of food service delivery and serves as commercial kitchen expert to Health Department personnel during annual inspections.

Qualifications

Summary
Under general supervision, assists in organizing, leading and conducting recreational programs and provides highly responsible and technical professional staff assistance in developing and conducting specialized recreational programs; and performs other duties as assigned.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Plans, schedules, assigns, supervises and participates in a recreation unit of the District typically consisting of part-time employees; organizes and conducts programs in program areas such as fine and performing arts, sports, outdoor activities, therapeutics and inclusion; interprets and communicates District policies to staff and ensures compliance with applicable federal, state and District safety regulations; interviews and participates in selecting new staff; establishes performance requirements; regularly monitors, evaluates and addresses performance.
• Contributes to the development of and monitors performance against the program budget; approves purchases and other expenditures in accordance with District policies and procedures.
• Identi­fies, contacts, selects and prepares documents for contract instructors; provides first-level approval and processes contract invoices.
• Prepares written public correspondence, speaks to school and community groups and promotes participation in scheduled activities through marketing plans and outreach efforts.
• Instructs participants in various athletic and recreational activities.
• Coordinates and participates in equipment and vendor selection, physical setup for special activities and the issuing and collecting of materials.

Qualifications
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfac­torily. Any combination of experience and training that would likely provide the required knowledge, skill and/or ability listed below is qualifying.

Education/Experience: A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be: a bachelor’s degree with emphasis in recreation or a closely related field; and two years of group recreational activity leadership experience including supervisory, public relations or marketing skills; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

As assigned to Therapeutic Recreation Unit, preferred degree in Therapeutic Recreation and/or two years of experience working with individuals with developmental disabili­ties, prefer­ably with ABA (Applied Behavior Analysis); and the ability to learn/imple­ment applicable laws and inclusion methods and practices. Knowledge of principles and techniques pertaining to the specialized program activities and program marketing and evaluation methods; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Language Ability: Ability to read, analyze and interpret documents in area of expertise, technical proce­dures, or government regulations. Ability to write reports, correspondence and proce­dure manuals. Ability to communicate effectively in written and oral form. Ability to present information and respond to questions. Ability to speak Spanish is desirable.

Math Ability: Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as percentages and costs. Ability to determine cost of contractors and provide budget input.

Position subject to pre-employment physical and Tuberculosis clearance

Under the direction of the Recreation and Community Engagement Department, the position is responsible for Reception/Cashier duties at City Hall and assisting with City events.

This entry-level classification requires limited time on the job before an incumbent can function at the full journey level. When assigned to the front desk at City Hall, one will perform various clerical tasks, including receptionist duties, basic cashier, customer service, program registration, record keeping, data entry, filing, and support of special events or projects.

When assigned the task of Recreation Assistant, will perform a variety of functions to support the Recreation Department's programs, including working directly with youth participants, assisting with planning activities, and providing customer service. Responsibilities may include clerical duties like program registration, record keeping, data entry, filing, and support of Department special events.

This position is not responsible for the direct supervision of other Department staff but may provide direction and assist other staff/volunteers during a program and/or activity. 

Sausalito Parks and Recreation is Seeking Vibrant Skilled Recreation Leaders

This recruitment is for Summer and Fall Events and Activities such as Bocce and Volleyball Referee, Chili Cook-off, Toast to Sausalito, and other fun classes, activities, and events

Pay: $16.00 - $17.00/ Hr

The City of Sausalito is recruiting for part-time temporary help for the summer and fall seasonal recreation activities and City-wide events.  The first of these is the Bocce League referee.

Bocce Referee
As a Sausalito Parks and Recreation Bocce Referee, you are responsible for set-up, management, and cleanup of scheduled Bocce matches. You are the enforcer of rules, an impartial judge, and an advocate for fun and fair play. The ideal candidate will maintain a positive attitude and provide a friendly environment when communicating with teams and keeping score. This position reports directly to the Recreation Supervisor.   The ideal candidate must meet all minimum requirements as listed below and be confident and capable of dealing with conflict and intense games.  

Event Staff

As a Sausalito Parks and Recreation Event Staff member, you are responsible for actively participating in set-up, cleanup, and management of your assigned event.  You must arrive on time and remain until the event leader release you after the event.   Event staff may set up chairs, tables, stages, corridors, and barriers.  You may be asked to perform traffic control or direct drivers to parking.   The ideal candidate will have a can-do attitude, smile often, meet all of the minimum requirements below, remain calm under pressure and in the face of adversity, be cheerful, and love the diversity of people. 

The minimum requirements for the position are:

As an as-needed employee, this is an "at-will" position and there is no guarantee of hours. Hours are limited to 999 in a fiscal year or 960 hours in a fiscal year for retired CalPERS annuitants.
