The San Mateo Public Library is seeking a part-time (20 hours per week) Library Assistant I/II  in the Children Services Division at the Main Library The Library Assistant I/II works closely with the Supervising Librarian and the four merit Children’s Librarians to prepare and implement Children’s programs and services. The Library Assistant helps children and adults with reference inquiries, prepares materials and conducts outreach and class visits, helps with storytimes, maintains displays, performs clerical tasks including typing, organizing books and other materials, and maintains statistical information and division-specific documents.

What You'll Do

The Library Assistant I/II performs a wide variety of library support work and technical library tasks related to such activities as acquisition, cataloging, classification, circulation, and assisting patrons; and performs related work as required.  The current vacancy may be filled at either level based on experience.  Depending upon class level and assignment, duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:

• Prepare print and non-print materials for introduction into the library materials collection, including use of an automated system to retrieve cataloging data and produce catalog cards; preparing and affixing identification labels and pockets to materials; pull discarded materials from catalog card files.
• Assign routine tasks and provide technical instruction to part time and other subordinate positions in area of responsibility.
• Assist in the acquisition, processing and maintenance of the periodical, microform, audio visual, business, historical, or other special collection for the library.
• Assist adults and children in locating materials in the library and in placing requests for materials not available.  Refer more difficult or technical questions to appropriate library staff.
• Handle patron complaints for overdue and lost materials; refer delinquent accounts to an agency for collection.
• Maintain statistics of library use; use computer produced and manual data to prepare reports on circulation processing, inquiries received and other activities.
• Assist in ordering and receiving books, records, cassettes, periodicals, and other library materials and preparing associated paperwork for payment.
• Perform routine clerical assignments, including typing, maintaining files, and routing mail.
• Use a microcomputer or the City's mainframe system for word processing, data file management, and statistical record keeping.
• Process incoming and outgoing interlibrary loan requests; receive and send requests via computer as well as by mail; verify requests for accuracy.
• Provide story hours to children and participate in other programs for children and young adults.
• Prepare and maintain displays and exhibits; develop artwork for publicity materials.
• Recruit and keep records of the work of volunteers in the library; screen potential volunteers and direct to appropriate library division for assignment.
• Assist and advise outreach volunteers and serve as library liaison to Peninsula Library System Outreach Service in the City of San Mateo.
• Check out library materials to patrons; check in and prepare materials for return to the circulating collection; register new patrons; collect overdue fines.
• Respond to patron in person and telephone requests for library materials, services, and information.

The Library Assistant I/II receives direction from higher level personnel.  The Library Assistant II may provide technical supervision over lower-level library positions.

How to qualify

Education:

Possession of a baccalaureate degree from an accredited college or university. AND

Experience:

Five (5) years of professional Museum and/or Public Art experience.

Education Substitution: Additional qualifying experience as described above may be substituted for the required degree on a year-for-year basis (up to the maximum of 2 years). Thirty (30) semester units or forty-five (45) quarter units equal one year.

The Santa Clara City Library is a department of the City of Santa Clara. The Santa Clara City Library operates three facilities, a virtual branch through a website, and a bookmobile. The Library Technology Consultant provides assistance with and instruction to the public on the use of library computers, electronic resources, printing, and audio-visual equipment. The Library Technology Consultant performs complicated tasks involving computer and audio-visual equipment, sensitive patron information, and handling money.

Under general supervision:

• Monitors the public’s use of computer equipment in the Technology Center, meeting rooms and throughout the library. 
• Provides individual and group technology instruction, including preparing and running technology classes at various City locations.
• Assists the public with the use of library computers, software and electronic resources; resolves problems and answers basic questions regarding computer, laptop & mobile device usage.
• Performs basic troubleshooting on Library self-checkout machines, scanners, and genealogy equipment.
• Monitors the use of technology equipment to deter theft and/or vandalism.
• Cleans and inspects computer equipment, replaces printer cartridges and printer paper.
• Maintains an inventory of computer supplies and peripheral devices; checks out peripheral devices to patrons; submits requests for replacements when needed.
• Oversees the Internet queuing system and monitors patrons’ time usage.
• Troubleshoots printer problems and Internet access problems involving patron cards.
• Assists patrons with payment for print jobs, photocopies & faxes, handles cash and credit cards.
• Accesses patron library accounts on library software.
• Configures and operates audio-visual equipment in conference rooms for meetings and/or public functions.  
• Configures and operates basic types of computer hardware and peripherals.
• Assists library users in connecting to the internet with mobile devices, WiFi hotspots, and laptop/Chromebook computers.
• Performs other related duties as assigned.

Minimum Education Requirements:

Graduation from high school or possession of a GED

Minimum Experience Requirements:

One (1) year experience with computer and audio-visual equipment.

Other Requirements: 

• Must be at least 18 years of age at time of application.
• This position will be required to work on Sundays. Sunday hours will start January 2025, with 40 hours of training in November/December required for working on Sundays.

PART-TIME ARCHIVIST (LIBRARIAN I/LIBRARY ASSISTANT I)

The Mill Valley Public Library is looking for a part-time archivist for the Lucretia Little History Room. This individual should be passionate about preserving local history, particularly oral histories.

ESTIMATED NUMBER OF HOURS:

12 - 15 hours per week, depending on availability and experience.

Salary: $21.81 - $39.84 per hour, depending on experience and education.

ABOUT THE POSITION:

Reporting to the Supervising Archivist, the Part-Time Archivist in the Lucretia Little History Room will oversee the processing of new oral history recordings and work through the backlog. The ideal candidate will be able to multitask, work independently and collaboratively, with excellent communication and organization skills, and an eye for detail.

TYPICAL DUTIES:

• Accession, arrange, describe, and preserve oral history interviews.
• Process and digitize incoming donations, as well as the backlog.
• Assist in archival workflow development and implementation.
• Contribute to and lead outreach projects showcasing the History Room’s collections.
• Assist with ad hoc projects as needed.

Summary
Under general supervision, assists in organizing, leading and conducting recreational programs and provides highly responsible and technical professional staff assistance in developing and conducting specialized recreational programs; and performs other duties as assigned.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Plans, schedules, assigns, supervises and participates in a recreation unit of the District typically consisting of part-time employees; organizes and conducts programs in program areas such as fine and performing arts, sports, outdoor activities, therapeutics and inclusion; interprets and communicates District policies to staff and ensures compliance with applicable federal, state and District safety regulations; interviews and participates in selecting new staff; establishes performance requirements; regularly monitors, evaluates and addresses performance.
• Contributes to the development of and monitors performance against the program budget; approves purchases and other expenditures in accordance with District policies and procedures.
• Identi­fies, contacts, selects and prepares documents for contract instructors; provides first-level approval and processes contract invoices.
• Prepares written public correspondence, speaks to school and community groups and promotes participation in scheduled activities through marketing plans and outreach efforts.
• Instructs participants in various athletic and recreational activities.
• Coordinates and participates in equipment and vendor selection, physical setup for special activities and the issuing and collecting of materials.
• Assists supervisor with the research, development, enhancement and implementation of new and existing services and programming; assists in monitoring program effective­ness.
• Prepares and maintains a variety of records and reports on participation, equipment and facility use.

Other Duties and Responsibilities

• May be required to drive a District or personal vehicle.
• May coordinate activities and meetings of the Community Advisory Council.
• Exempt employees may be required to work nights and weekends.  
• Participates during disasters or when emergency response is needed.

Qualifications
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfac­torily. Any combination of experience and training that would likely provide the required knowledge, skill and/or ability listed below is qualifying.

Education/Experience: A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be: a bachelor’s degree with emphasis in recreation or a closely related field; and two years of group recreational activity leadership experience including supervisory, public relations or marketing skills; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

As assigned to Therapeutic Recreation Unit, preferred degree in Therapeutic Recreation and/or two years of experience working with individuals with developmental disabili­ties, prefer­ably with ABA (Applied Behavior Analysis); and the ability to learn/imple­ment applicable laws and inclusion methods and practices. Knowledge of principles and techniques pertaining to the specialized program activities and program marketing and evaluation methods; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Language Ability: Ability to read, analyze and interpret documents in area of expertise, technical proce­dures, or government regulations. Ability to write reports, correspondence and proce­dure manuals. Ability to communicate effectively in written and oral form. Ability to present information and respond to questions. Ability to speak Spanish is desirable.

Math Ability: Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as percentages and costs. Ability to determine cost of contractors and provide budget input.

Reasoning Ability: Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in standardized situations. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions provided in written or oral form. Ability to exercise a high degree of independent judgment.

Certificates and Licenses: 

• First Aid & CPR/AED within 90 days of employment with ability to maintain certifications thereafter as a condition of employment.
• Valid California driver’s license with a good driving record and current automobile insurance.
• Therapeutics program requires a California Commercial Class C Driver License within six months of employment.
• Aquatics program requires a Certified Pool Operator’s certification or Aquatic Facility Operator’s certification within six months of employment as well as Life­guard training, American Red Cross Lifeguard Instructor Trainer and American Red Cross Water Safety instructor certificates.
• All full-time candidates require satisfactory completion of a pre-employment functional capacity examination.
• Department of Justice fingerprint clearance.
• Proof of negative TB skin test.

Supervisory Responsibilities: Typically supervises part-time employees in the recreation department, including performance evaluations. The number of part-time employees supervised varies depending on unit assignment.

This recruitment is for Summer and Fall Events and Activities such as Bocce and Volleyball Referee, Chili Cook-off, Toast to Sausalito, and other fun classes, activities, and events

Pay: $16.00 - $17.00/ Hr

The City of Sausalito is recruiting for part-time temporary help for the summer and fall seasonal recreation activities and City-wide events.  The first of these is the Bocce League referee.

Bocce Referee
As a Sausalito Parks and Recreation Bocce Referee, you are responsible for set-up, management, and cleanup of scheduled Bocce matches. You are the enforcer of rules, an impartial judge, and an advocate for fun and fair play. The ideal candidate will maintain a positive attitude and provide a friendly environment when communicating with teams and keeping score. This position reports directly to the Recreation Supervisor.   The ideal candidate must meet all minimum requirements as listed below and be confident and capable of dealing with conflict and intense games.  

Event Staff

As a Sausalito Parks and Recreation Event Staff member, you are responsible for actively participating in set-up, cleanup, and management of your assigned event.  You must arrive on time and remain until the event leader release you after the event.   Event staff may set up chairs, tables, stages, corridors, and barriers.  You may be asked to perform traffic control or direct drivers to parking.   The ideal candidate will have a can-do attitude, smile often, meet all of the minimum requirements below, remain calm under pressure and in the face of adversity, be cheerful, and love the diversity of people. 

The minimum requirements for the position are:

TYPICAL DUTIES:

• Performs professional librarian duties;

THE POSITION

This is an excellent job opportunity for individuals interested in law enforcement. 

This is a recruitment for the entry-level class of the Police Services Aide series.  Incumbents perform work according to established procedures and routines, although an employee may be required to make decisions involving emergency circumstances.  Detailed instructions are given on assignments and work is reviewed while in progress.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES

Operates computers, and other communications equipment; answers a variety of questions from the public and handles a variety of front desk services ; receives and processes phone calls for Police assistance; maintains detailed records of Police phone and radio calls and their disposition; types routine reports and miscellaneous correspondence; processes documents and maintains files in accord with standard procedures; maintains files, receives money, and issues receipts; prepares daily reports and transactions; may assist with animal control duties when needed; fingerprints applicants; assist with property room functions including transporting property to and from court; and performs related work as required.

Also, assist with community engagement events, conducts traffic control and in field equipment delivery, supports patrol staff with equipment maintenance and supply replenishment.

DESCRIPTION:

The Department:

The Purchasing Division resides in the City's Finance Department and maintains a "centralized purchasing system" that is responsible for all purchasing and contracting activities related to supplies, materials, equipment, and general and professional services. Additionally, the Purchasing Division operates a central warehouse with over 3,000 inventory items, primarily supporting the City's utilities departments. The Purchasing Division is also responsible for the disposition of surplus property and the City mailroom.

The Purchasing Division comprises 12 full-time and three as-needed staff: Purchasing Division Manager (1), Contracts Manager (4), As- Needed Contracts Manager (3), Management Analyst (1), Chief Storekeeper (1), Buyer (2), and Materials Handler (3). 

The Position:

The Buyer is a hands-on, front-line, customer service driven position. The position will perform necessary purchasing procedures for the acquisition of goods and services, which include (a) reviewing and prioritizing requisitions and proposed specifications; (b) preparing, developing, and issuing solicitations of moderate complexity; (c) processing requisitions and purchase orders; and (d) applying City purchasing policies and procedures. The ideal candidate will have knowledge of (a) current principles, practices, and methods of purchasing, (b) cost reduction techniques; and (c) pricing and cost analysis.

The annual salary range for this position is $107,380.80 - $137,341.32.  This position will be filled at or near the minimum of the salary range.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Minimum Education Requirements:

Education and experience equivalent to graduation from an accredited college with a Bachelor's degree in public or business administration or related field.

Minimum Experience Requirements:

Two years of experience in purchasing of materials, supplies, and equipment, preferably in the public utility field.

Acceptable Substitution:

Experience may be substituted for education on the basis of one year full-time paid responsible purchasing experience for each year (30 semester units) of education.

License/Certifications:

Possession of an appropriate, valid California driver's license is required.

Other Requirements: 

Incumbents in this position are required to file a Conflict of Interest statement upon assuming office, annually and upon leaving office, in accordance with City Manager Directive 100.  Must be able to perform all of the essential functions of the job assignment.
