San Mateo Medical Center is seeking an experienced Surgery Scheduling Specialist for a Full-Time, Extra-help position for the Surgery Department. The Surgery Scheduling Specialist provides technical, complex and specialized administrative support to surgeons and patients scheduled for surgery, which includes interaction with operating room staff and patients; handles multiple competing priorities; interacts with diverse customer groups; handles multiple patient-related tasks such as tracking patient financials to ensure information is correctly entered; and moves patients from the clinic to the operating room, including all pre-operative processes necessary for the patients prior to surgery, pre-op process sheets and clinic schedules, data entry of items into the operative database, financial reconciliation, and post-op order sets, and may have some responsibilities for ordering supplies or equipment.
 
The ideal candidate for this position will possess excellent communications skills, including the ability to communicate complex medical terminology to a variety of people with varying levels of medical knowledge. In addition, they would possess skills in conflict resolution, and problem solving. The ideal candidate will have the ability to work with challenging patients, and patients who may have a language or communication barrier. This position will require attention to detail, and therefore the ideal candidate will possess strong organizational skills and the ability to multi-task.
 
NOTE: The ability to speak, read and write in fluent English and Spanish is preferred for this position.
 
 Duties for this position may include, but are not limited to, the following:

• Tracking patient financials to be sure they are correctly entered.
• Scheduling patients in the procedure clinic.  
• Updating the pre-op process sheet and clinic schedule in the computer.
• Entering data into the operative database.
• Interfacing between the Operating Room and Surgeon.
• Ability to schedule patients using the OR manager program.

Occupational Therapist II is the experienced journey level class in this series. Incumbents in this class perform the full range of general therapy treatments with a greater degree of independence and proficiency, additionally applying more specialized and advanced therapy treatments. Some individuals may also assist in providing technical advice and training to less experienced staff.
The ideal candidate has graduated from an accredited occupational therapy curriculum and is licensed as an Occupational Therapist by the California Board of Occupational Therapy and registered with the National Board for Certification in Occupational Therapy. They will also possess a Certificate of completion for a course in Basic Life Support as approved by the American Red Cross or American Heart Association. Additionally, the incumbent will have experience in working with adults, skilled nursing, and acute care.  Fluency in Spanish is preferred, but not required. San Mateo Medical Center and its clinics are currently seeking well-qualified candidates for Physical Therapist II to provide outpatient and/or inpatient services at San Mateo Medical Center - Main Campus in San Mateo, CA. These positions would provide outpatient and/or inpatient services physical therapy evaluations and treatments for a variety of orthopedic and neurologic conditions.

Physical Therapists manage patients with a wide range of diagnoses, chronic and acute, and are part of a dynamic treatment team. In addition, Physical Therapists identify patient challenges and develop goals and a care plan with reasonable outcomes for the individual's life/work settings. Daily opportunities are created in this assignment through the variety of illnesses/injuries seen in our patient population.

Physical Therapists work at SMMC as part of a County rehabilitation program, which provides evaluation, education and treatment. The therapeutic program at SMMC is oriented toward inpatients and outpatients with acute and chronic problems while providing therapy to inpatients with a need for long or short-term rehabilitation.

The ideal candidate will possess a minimum of one year of work experience providing care in an outpatient setting with an interest in covering inpatient when the census justifies. The City of Newark is seeking an experienced Aquatics Programs Specialist who is well versed with the development and effective implementation of aquatic programs tailored to different age groups and skill levels, such as swimming lessons, water aerobics, lifeguard training, and more. The Specialist will work out of the George M Silliman Community Activity Center. 

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Review the existing swim lesson program provided at the Aquatic Center, utilizing the American Red Cross Learn to Swim Program materials, with the aim of pinpointing areas that could be enhanced.
2. Evaluate the current swim instructor handbook and offer recommendations that align with program requirements; integrating relevant materials from the American Red Cross Swim Lesson Program and feedback from staff to create a more cohesive handbook for swim instructors.
3. Assess the current swim instructor in-service practices and propose a recommended training plan and schedule for management and staff. This includes organizing 2-5 in-service sessions with staff to review new information and establish a structured training plan.                                                                                  

• Evaluate Current Practices: Conduct an analysis of the existing swim instructor in-service practices, identifying strengths, weaknesses, and areas for improvement.
• Needs Assessment: Determine the specific needs of the swim instructors and the program as a whole. Consider instructor feedback, observations, and any deficiencies noted in performance evaluations.
• Training Objectives: Define clear training objectives that align with the goals of the swim lesson program and the organization's standards. These objectives should address areas such as instructional techniques, safety protocols, emergency procedures, and customer service skills.
• Curriculum Development: Develop a comprehensive curriculum for the in-service training sessions. Incorporate relevant materials from the American Red Cross Swim Lesson Program, focusing on best practices for instruction and program management.
• Training Plan and Schedule: Create a detailed training plan and recommended schedule that outlines the topics to be covered in each session. Ensure that the schedule accommodates the availability of staff and allows for adequate time to cover each topic thoroughly.
• Session Content: Structure each in-service session to include a combination of theoretical instruction, practical demonstrations, and hands-on activities. Provide opportunities for staff to ask questions, participate in discussions, and practice new skills.
• Resource Materials: Compile a set of resource materials to support the training sessions, including instructional guides, lesson plans, videos, and reference materials from the American Red Cross Swim Lesson Program.
• Feedback Mechanism: Establish a feedback mechanism to gather input from staff following each training session. Use this feedback to assess the effectiveness of the training and make any necessary adjustments to future sessions.
• Implementation and Monitoring: Implement the training plan according to the established schedule, ensuring that all staff members have the opportunity to participate. Work with staff to ensure they are monitoring staff performance and progress throughout the training process, providing additional support and guidance as needed.
• Evaluation and Continuous Improvement: Conduct a final evaluation of the training program to assess its overall effectiveness and impact on staff performance. Use the findings to inform staff of training initiatives and make continuous improvements to the swim instructor’s in-service practices.                        

     4. Collaborate with program staff to facilitate the implementation of the DigiQuatics software, specifically  focusing on the swim lesson program module to ensure its success and staff training opportunities.

    5. Support staff in addressing any needs within the swim lesson program to enhance its effectiveness and boost participant enrollment as required.

In this role, you will have the opportunity to provide instruction in swim and serve as a lifeguard at assigned swimming facilities. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

A minimum of two (2) summer seasons working as a lifeguard or swim instructor.

Must possess a valid Water Safety Instruction Card which requires an American Red Cross Lifeguard Training Certificate, and successful completion of first aid and Cardio-Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) training.

If acting as a Coach or teaching a specific water sports activity, in addition to the qualifications outlined above, must possess a valid USA Swimming Level 1 Certification or Specialized Aquatics Certificate.

ABOUT THE POSITION:

The Seasonal Maintenance Worker position performs a variety of entry-level and unskilled labor, maintenance and repair tasks in various public works operations, such as park maintenance, landscape maintenance, creek and catch basin maintenance, street maintenance, and janitorial and facility maintenance.

Typically, work hours are scheduled between Monday through Friday, 7:00 am to 3:30 pm.  Some hours may be adjusted for special events in evening or on weekends; up to 29 hours per week.

• Operate power tools such as power washer, leaf blower and weed eater, as well as basic hand tools such as brooms, shovels, rakes and hoes

The Newark Recreation and Community Services Department is looking for Senior Lifeguards for our fantastic swim lesson and aquatic programs and the upcoming to work at the year-round Silliman Activity & Family Aquatic Center. We are looking for positive, patient, motivated, self-driven individuals that have a passion for working in aquatics and with children, who wish to make a difference in a child's life by teaching them lifelong water skills! Swimming experience is required. Additional program training will be provided once hired. Please note that this position requires you to work in an indoor aquatic environment subject to warm/humid temperatures.
