The Newark Recreation and Community Services Department is looking for Lifeguards for our fantastic swim lessons and aquatic programs at the Silliman Activity & Family Aquatic Center. We are looking for positive, patient, motivated, self-driven individuals that have a passion for working with children and wish to make a difference! Those that are successful in the application review will be invited to attend an in-person interview. Please note that this position requires you to work in an indoor aquatic environment subject to warm/humid temperatures.

• Applicants should be able to work at least 12-20 hours September through April, including weekends and holidays, with mandatory trainings.

• Must be flexible regarding scheduling as it is based on business demands to include some weekend and holiday availability. We are flexible around school schedules.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Under direct supervision of the Aquatics Coordinator, Lifeguards will ensure the safety of facility patrons by preventing and responding to emergencies
• Maintaining constant surveillance of patrons in the facility
• Acting immediately and appropriately to ensure the safety of patrons in the event of an emergency/Providing emergency care and treatment as required until the arrival of emergency medical services
• Performing various maintenance duties as directed to maintain a clean and safe facility
• Having a thorough knowledge of rescue techniques

Qualifications

Certificate: As required by the State of California, incumbents at this level must possess a valid California Basic POST Certificate.

Physical Requirements: Must be free from any condition which might adversely affect fitness for the duties of the position; uncorrected visual acuity of at least 20/100 in each eye, correctable to 20/30 in each eye; weight must be in proportion to height.

Other requirements: Willing to work irregular hours, holidays, weekends, and rotating shifts. Refrain from using tobacco products at any time for employees hired by the County after October 1, 2004.

• Report any supply requests and facility maintenance needs;

Under general supervision, lead, and conduct activities in the delivery of recreation program areas including camps, preschool, tots, after school programs, parks and nature, teens, boxing, youth and adult sports, special events, and active adults; oversee the proper use of indoor and outdoor community recreational facilities, perform a variety of custodial tasks; assist the public and staff in their use of the facility.

Distinguishing Characteristics: 

Under general supervision, the Recreation Aide assists in the proper use of a community recreational facility and assist Recreation Leaders in providing a variety of recreation programs. The Department

The Finance Department functions include budgeting, revenue collection, debt management, purchasing, cash management and investment, disbursements, accounting, and financial reporting. Budget activities include coordinating and producing the annual budget document, monitoring revenue and expenditure performance, preparing mid-year and year-end budget presentations to the City Council, evaluating the effects of budget changes on service levels, assisting departments with business planning, and supporting citywide economic development projects. The Ideal Candidate
