The City of Sebastopol is seeking an outgoing, empathetic, responsible, problem-solver to serve as a Police Communications Dispatcher. The Police Communications Dispatcher receives and processes routine and emergency calls. The incumbent will dispatch police and enter, retrieve, and use data from various automated law enforcement information systems. The successful candidate will coordinate with and transfer calls to other emergency service providers as appropriate. The individual will perform a variety of clerical and technical duties in support of the Department’s operations. We are seeking a collaborative, service-oriented individual to conduct a variety of code compliance duties with competence and professionalism. The Code Compliance Officer I/II will be responsible for conducting inspections related to the enforcement of building codes and investigations pertaining to violations of the municipal code provisions in zoning ordinances, sanitary regulations, business license regulations, and nuisance abatement ordinances.  The Code Compliance Officer I/II must possess excellent interpersonal and communication skills, be self-directed, exercise discretion, and excellent judgment.

What You'll Do

The Senior Planner works on, organizes, reviews, and participates in current and advanced planning work and acts as Zoning Administrator when assigned.  The Senior Planer also supervises the work of professional and technical planning personnel, projects, and other activities when assigned.  This class is the first supervisory level in the professional planning series.  It is distinguished from the next lower class of Associate Planner through its supervisory duties, when assigned, and its responsibilities for the most complex planning projects.  It is distinguished from the next higher class of Principal Planner as the latter is responsible for managing the current and advanced planning functions of the Planning Division.  Duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:

• Implement goals, objectives, policies, and priorities.
• Direct, coordinate, review, and participate in the work of professional and other planning staff in data collection, analysis, and implementation of a wide variety of planning, zoning, and environmental review activities.
• Act as Zoning Administrator when assigned; supervise special planning, zoning, and environmental studies, and plans; prepare oral and written reports and findings.
• Perform the most complex and sensitive planning work.
• Act as liaison and make oral and written reports to the Planning Commission, Development Review Board, City Council, and various citizen committees as assigned.
• Coordinate planning activities with other City divisions and departments, and with outside local, regional, Federal and State agencies and provide assistance as needed.
• Chair Development Review Board meetings as required.
• Initiate recommendations for changes in codes, plans and policies.
• Utilize expert knowledge in specific technical areas to serve as staff resource.
• May assist in the preparation and administration of the annual budget.

THE ORGANIZATION

The City of Pacifica is a General Law City incorporated in 1957 and operates under the Council/Manager form of government. Legislative authority is vested in a five member City Council elected by district for four-year overlapping terms. The Mayor is selected each year by a majority vote of the other Council members. THE DEPARTMENT

The Community Development Department provides timely, public-facing, and internal services related to the review of applications for development and building permits, as well as code enforcement of the City’s development regulations. The Department has primary responsibility for the maintenance and implementation of the City’s General Plan, Local Coastal Program, Zoning Regulations, and Building Code, as well as environmental review of City and private development projects in accordance with CEQA regulations. The Department provides staff support to the City’s Planning Commission, Open Space and Parkland Advisory Committee, and Climate Action Adaptation Task Force.

The Community Development Department is staffed by 14 full-time staff along with the use of outside consulting agencies support as required. The Department is organized into three (3) divisions: Planning, Building, and Code Enforcement, and prides itself on providing a high level of services with a lean but talented team.
